Hi,

I want to make a Librarian on a bike to field at the 40k Doubles in Jan and I was wondering if anybody has any advice on this or ideally some examples.

I have seen a couple but nothing that has really inspired me.

One of the problems I can foresee is that Librarians are blue but the Chapter colour is a brass colour, here is a piccy of a dreadnought in the chapter colours...

I don't think blue will gel with this colour particulay well, but I don't want s blue bike as it'll just end up looking like an Ultramarine.

So any thoughts?

Blue Librarians are not mandatory, if you want it brass then paint it brass

Yeah, but I'm trying to keep codex and he needs to stand out from the crowd and I'm worried that the blue/brass combo will clash so hard I'll have Gok Wan turning up.

Well paint him brass but just leave one shoulder pad or the front wheel armour of the bike blue.

A common thing that players do who don't want a smurph in their army is to paint their Librarian the same color as their chapter but paint one shoulder guard inset blue.

As far as making the model itself it's very easy, get a Dark Angel bike kit because it has a rider with the robes and you can choose any head you want beings as it is plastic. I made my Librarian from the Dark Angels upgrade kit. It's that easy.

Oh and he had some parts from the Space Marine Captain and a shoulder guard from a chaos marine tank driver because it has the horned skull that Librarians usually have, the staff from the chaos terminator lord with an Imperial standard top as the head piece and the hand from a devastator missle launcher turned out to show that he's using his power.

You can do all sorts of things like this just put it on the DA bike torso.

The thing that makes it a librarian is the head. Just make sure you have the psy amplifier hood thingy.

You mean this one http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat1400016&prodId=prod1060240

yeah looks like that would work, do a head swap to give him psychic hood.

They have a librarian + force staff you could get a head from. Force staff is kinda core to librarians too, so it wouldn't hurt.

Go for brass but make a verdigris effect, (i.e. when copper oxidises)... i think a librarian rendered like this would be very cool.

Go with what you like. My chapter's librarians wear Red with Black Shoulderpads, contrasting to the Black armor and Red and Brass pads of everyone else.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

Cheers for the input. I think I will go for a fully blue armour (as per the insignum astertes book) with only the chapter badge shoulder pad being brass.

I'll make the bike brass with a bit or ornamentation, but what I'll do is model the Libby as if he has stopped to cast a spell (outstretched hand or similar) with him standing with one foot on the bike pegs and the other on the floor and with one hand on the handle bars. The idea being that the bike acts more like a background/base to the figure rather then being a focal part of it.

My thought is that blue doesn't necessarily mean OMG SUPERBRIGHT ULTRAMARINES. Go with something more subdued, like regal blue or shadow gray or something, then appropriately weather it. I'm sure that'd fit with your scheme a lot better than the standard bright blue librarian look.

Yeah, you definately don't want ultramrine librarian.

If you want to have a some bikers to ride with him you could just buy the ravenwing box, it has tons of extra bits in it so your libby can have 3 big books insted of 1. + you'd have three robed bikers so if you really wanted to you could assemble three libby's and see what one you like best.

heres one i did for my Legion of the damned space marines back before their more recent codex.

he is off to the side. i took an oooooolllllld oop librarian with the staff and chopped his legs off, then his left arm . replaced them both with the biker parts . then i green stuffed a robe over his legs and gave him a nice shoulder pad.

Stop! Hammertime.

Generally codex chapters have libbys in blue armour with a shoulderpad in chapter colours, see codex ultramarines.

The USS Orinoco was a Federation Danube-class runabout that was in service with Starfleet in the late 24th century, attached to Deep Space 9. It was outfitted with a sensor pod.

maybe if you can find some sort of resin/clear resin blast/fire/muzzle flash effect to drill and pin into the palm of his outstretched hand to signify the awesome phenoninal cosmic power he's using. I have seen some effects that are cool but most are peuter
