I'm hoping to play up to Moria, that's my plan anyway. As a kid I was always blown away by the idea of Moria and it's stayed with me all these years, so I really want a chance to wander it's halls.
That said, parts of the game are certainly tedious.

Currently wandering around the Barrow Downs, which I quite like as a zone. Lots of open space, lots going on, cool atmosphere, and I love the visuals.

Took a look into the Lone Lands, and I'm worried that might be tedious. I'll probably purchase a couple of quest packs on Steam to make sure I have a good experience. (I don't mind spending money but I'd rather not give my details to Turbine- just makes impulse buying stuff from the store too easy!)

Funny how an engaging world can make such a difference. Back in 2007-8 I tried WoW and although I enjoyed parts of it, I ended up quitting it after a few weeks because the MMORPG aspects got to me. It seems that in LOTR the setting stuff is managing to outweigh the MMORPG issues for me.

The Lone Lands aren't bad (and they have an epic quest chain, which has nothing to do with the books, so you will need to do the eastern end anyway). The western and eastern ends are quite interesting, its the bit in the middle thats the problem

There aren't any zones in the base game that I dislike, although Angmar isn't great.

Modded Skyrim, i've been having real trouble getting anything over 100 megs off the Nexus so haven't been able to get much visual stuff, or any other big Flagpole mods such as interesting NPCs or Immersive armours.

HOWEVER i am still having a ton of Fun. For the record I am playing a shield + sword heavy warrior with my old rule of NO health/stamina potions (which helped with the 360 versions lumpy difficulty).

For gameplay enhancement i have:
Better Combat AI (Steam (my only workshop mod))- Does what most of the Nexus mods with a similar name does but without the Goofy BS. Simply makes the AI alot more aggressive.

TK hit stop (nexus)- Adds a couple frames of slowdown/blur/shake when you land a strike/get hit. It also gives you a super detailed means of tweaking controller vibration. I highly recommend you tweak this after install as the default settings aren't quite there imo.

SkyTweak- Allows you access to a silly amount of sliders to alter combat difficulty. Also has a few optional extras which will increase challenge.

Audio Overhaul: A truly Magnificent Mod, this may sound stupid but in combination with Immersive first person it merits an entire other playthrough in itself.

Immersive First person- WARNING, this mod is unusable with the default settings, it must be tweaked in the menus to be usable. I recommend using it outside of combat only, with it automatically disabling when you draw your weapon (i use the camera as a replacement to 3rd person). Also bear in mind that when you stand still you will not auto-turn you must move the character to turn more (this can be adjusted but i quite like it). Also this mod works FAR better with a controller, it requires alot of precision with the movement and WASD can't provide it imo. Minor side effect of this mod is it actually makes Skyrim Mountain 'Climbing' look alot more believable. PS, it for the most part works well with Dynavision but it can go screwy for a second or two if you allow your char to idle.

I am about to install iNeed as i see that most of the BS can be turned off in MCM which just leaves the basic needs which is all i want.

Are you playing MnB single player or online? A buddy got me playing some CRPG (or something) mod for it, had stats and tracked experience/gold etc blah blah. Was interesting, though I think I had more fun slowly trying to take over the world in single player. I kept hitting a bottleneck where my party was as big as I could seem to get it, and I could hold a couple of territories, but if I tried to set off on my own everyone came at me and there was too much attrition to sustain my empire let alone advance. I have a mind to try it again sometime, maybe even research the 'proper' way to do things, was probably doing something wrong.

Definitely playing IWD:2 again, got a cranky/evil party this time. Hopefully my melee-centric group doesn't get into too much trouble, I'm used to having a lot of viable archers. I fully intend to run my mouth and pick the mean/violent answers as often as proves beneficial, I'm not foolish enough to assume the jerk/evil path will always be the best answer, just whatever gets me the best reward!

I played Crpg when it was new; and it was awesome. I've got about 600 hours into Warband. With the single player you just need to put an crazy amount of time in getting your right to rule up; that's the only way to keep everyone from ganging up on you. Or cheat, I guess.

How does "grind a bunch" not surprise me as the answer? Silly games. I think I'll go back to my strategy of leveling the main character fairly high before recruiting anyone by soloing a bunch of groups of bandits (just not horse bandits, ye gods!) if I take another try. Thanks for the input

I am back to MineCraft. New map, finally stayed alive long enough to get some good enchants and diamond pick and sword. Got my xp back up to level 19 and then died in lava. Not sure why my water bucket didn't save me.

So now as usual I am frustrated. I always have a really hard time returning to a map after a really bad death.

The one saving grace is I left a fortune 2 Diamond pick back in my house waiting for a good Diamond find. And a good stock of supplies to fall back on.

My rule of thumb- never adventure with anything higher than stone. That way, you never need to worry about accidentally overmining, you can't under any circumstance accidentally mine up diamonds or redstone (letting you go back to get your Fortune pick after securing the area), and if you die without being able to get your stuff back (lava, monster spawner, bad fall, etc) then you don't lose too much. You can always get back experience, but diamonds are one and done. Heck, even Iron is technically infinite because of Zombies.

And even just one level of exp on a stone pick can get you Efficiency I, which is about up to Iron in speed. It's about 22 to 27 levels all told to combine stone enchants up to Efficiency 3 or 4 just from single level enchantments- and you know what you're gonna get. Plus, if you're using the new Anvil rules, repairing a stone pick with some cobble is rather easier and cheaper than repairing a diamond pick, even if you end up having to repair it hundreds of times to the diamond's once.

Somebody had to go and mention Mount and Blade so now I'm trying to take over the world again (well part of it) in the single player. Likely going to be grindy, whether or not it is a tedious grind is yet to be seen.

Rerolled yet another IWD2 party, but hopefully I stick with these guys. I left the frills off and went for a pretty classic/simple party with several tanks and healers. I did get a little unconventional with an enchanter who will be somewhat less nukey than another spec of wizard, but the druids in IWD have some aggressive nature/elemental spells so perhaps they'll do alright in tandem.

Still got Pokemon Yellow on the backburner, trying to decide if it's worth figuring out the emulated link cable nonsense to get an Alakazam or not... Still grindy, but I've mostly given up on maintaining anything but a stable of 6-8 critters and letting everything else gather dust.

The misses got me the new thief can't help. It be dissapointied with it so far.

Garret has gone from an interesting sarcastic character who steals to pay his rent because it's the only thing he's good at to a gravel voiced ninja with all the personality of a a baked potato. Some of the dialog in this game espeically between Garret and Erin is eyerollingly bad. I enjoyed garnets quips in the older games but they just feel a little lifeless in this one.

Gameplay wise the stealth is solid for the most part but the choice to bind the pick up stuff button to the same button seems to get my caught a lot with garret glueing himself to cover when I want to pick stuff up and picking stuff up when I want him to get in cover.

The levels are also considerably smaller and less free despite the open world hub with lots of doors that are there for show you can't open. The gameplay seems to be split into sections I. Much the same way the new hitman game was, albeit to a lesser extent rending the enjoyment of being given a largel level and being told to break in and loot feth out of it less Iinteresting.

It's a shame because I have been waiting for this game for Close to a decade. Now maybe I should judge the game on its own merits but that's very difficult to do when the older games were some of my favourites.

I will retry it soon and see if I come away more favourable after the initial diss apointment wears off.

^Seems like a neat enough world to explore, but they should have juked the time frame by a number of years so that you were exploring the world and not just participating in the mmo of the books/movies. If nothing else, they should at least put you on the sidelines or running different yet still important quests. A cameo by a notable figure seems fine, but for them to be quest givers or for you to go and do actual events from the books or movies.. meh. I'd prefer it another way.

Think I'm gonna kick around some more Icewind Dale 2. Got an Asus Transformer Book cause my main rig is getting old and I've wanted something portable for awhile (read that as: I never get to go to my office/computer/hobby room thanks to tiny toddler master, so I got a laptop/thing so I could do anything ever ). It can be a tablet, but they keyboard dock is almost too useful to live without. For actual gaming... well it can play games... but for a game that's playable while reclining on the couch and utilizes the interface options available to me... Something nice and simple like IWD/BG/NWN will do.

I've got it to run diablo3, I'll play that sometimes, but I've got to use my iDroid snakebyte controller and they mapped that thing really weird. It's amazing for, say, a psx emulator, and it having a mouse/keyboard function is swell... but they mapped the mouse move to the right stick. What? And the clicks are the top buttons (not triggers, or something even more sensible like the buttons on the right side...) oh well. I've gotten the interface to be playable, and on lower settings I don't see a lot of slowdown, so I may still play it. I may look up a wired controller sometime too, if I can find a good one that supports a mouse function like the idroid thingy.

War in the North was good like that. It ran mostly along side the movies and you would bump into characters from the movies on occation but you are not taking part in the same battles or fighting the same people.

Speaking of Mount and Blade I would love a version set in Sengoku Japan. All the warring Daimyos and power struggles would make it a perfect setting.
