So I'm slowly getting back into 40k and I need to get my IG tanks rolling. I want to strip the old paint job off of the tanks. I know simple green works great on metal and plastic models but are there any other products out there that work better? I've stripped alot of infantry models but never a vehicle and I don't really know how to go about it; worried about messing up the tanks. Any good ideas on how to go about it? I got 6 Leman Russ variants (plastic), Basilisk (plastic), Griffon (plastic, metal), 2 Chimeras(plastic), 1 Sentinel(plastic), Shadow Sword, and a Bane Blade. Now once I get them stripped, I'm thinking US WW2 olive drab on the Russes, artillery, and chimeras. For the super heavies I'm thinking WW2 german tan brown color with camo stripes. What do you guys think of my ideas? Kind of going for a WW2 era themed IG. Love to hear everybody's thought on my color scheme ideas. Thanks

I've never stripped a vehicle either so I am interested in advice too. I think I'll try Simple Green on one of the Rhino's that needs it and see what happens. What's the worst that can happen?

Simple green and a tooth brush works the best for me, but you can use non acetone nail polish remover also....Just make sure it is non acetone! If it's not it will melt your model!

yeah, i put my vehicles that needed repainting into the same simple green tub as the rest of my minis. I did try Pine Sol (not sure what its european or other parts of the world equivalent is), but ran into a bit of a problem. The land raider that went into pine sol unglued itself (which turned out better because i was able to get a tight fit the second time around) and i now have a bubbly rhino somehow.

I left a land raider in simple green for about a week, and that worked fairly well. Mine came apart too. I'm pretty sure simple green debonds superglue, so if you used plastic cement your tanks shouldn't fall apart. But yeah, otherwise, the paint generally came off fine, although it's obvious that the previous owner used a plastic-bonding primer, so that's still on most of the model. I used a really cheap $3 motorized toothbrush from walmart on the stubborn bits, as it was cheap and made things a bit easier than pure elbow grease.

You can import Fairy Power Spray, a UK kitchen cleaner which works in about 15 muntes (I kid you not) and is totally harmless to plastics and metal.

$7 though BUT it does work, doesn't take days as for Simple Green and leaves your stuff still glued together which is a bonus. 2 Squirts, agitate with a toothbrush, leave for 15 minutes or longer up to half an hour is all that's needed, rinse with toothbrush under water. Done. You can leave it on for days though with no ill effects. You can then redo for any crevices and bits you missed. Works a treat.

If I am not in my room, is it still my room?
