Subject: Adepticon full? Question for organizers.

So, this is for anyone "in the know."
What are the chances that more spots are going to be opened for the 40K events? Specfically, the team tourney.
Not knowing just how fast this thing was going to fill up, my group went online last weekend, made our hotel reservations (at the hotel where the tourney is), registered for Adepticon, then went to sign up for the team tourney.
We got a message saying that it was full & that there were MORE THAN 25 teams on the waiting list.
What?
Wow.
So, with that kind of demand, and the web site saying you can pre-register until the 31st of March, what are the chances that the Team Tourney will be opened for more players/teams?
What would be a hindrance?
Not enough oom? Is the hotel out of banquet rooms on that day/weekend?
Not enough terrain? Is there not enough terrain for the X amount of extra tables needed?
Not enough staff? Do you not have enough judges to man the tournament if you expand it?
Something else?
What can we, as potential players, do to help/increase the chances that more spots will be opened up? I mean, if the 3 factors above aren't issues, adding more spots just increases the revenue you'll see!
We're trying to plan the trip and, frankly, it's not worth traveling hundreds of miles to *not* play in the tournament. You know?
Thanks in advance.
Eric
P.S. One of my buddies emailed the organizers that night but, to the best of my knowledge, they hadn't gotten back to him as of last night. So, it's not that we haven't tried that approach.

I believe they will not be able to open more spots, but have a team tournament.
I believe it's entirely related to logistical and space capacity at the hotel.
Don't quote me, I don't work for or with Adepticon.

My understanding is that it's a space issue - the team tournament pretty much fills the largest available space to capacity.

Yep. This year I think they sold out of TT tickets in under three weeks. Just crazy. Last year I think they had a few slots left until a month or two before. Prior to that I'm not sure if they had sold out before.
Adepticon keeps getting bigger and hotter.

I wasn't the one who did the registering, and can't get to the Adepticon site from work.
I did a search here but, Dakka search being what it is (or, maybe it was a user error), I found nothing.
Thank you for quoting that & providing the link.
Looks like it's time to cancel our reservations, then.
So, is there any rule on transferring our tourney registration? I know it's a "no refund" thing, but it would be nice to be able to get some of the money back that we spent on 4 passes for the weekend.
I mean, it's obvious that there's no way 25+ teams are going to back out of the tounrey!
Thanks.

I just found out I could go last week. Went to the website, looked up all the events, figured out what was open and what wasn't. You can easily see what's available before signing up and paying. Couldn't get into the big 40k events, but there were quite a few other things I'm happy to play in. Signed up for 2 tournaments and then found a partner for the WFB team tourney. Probably get some pick up games, see some old friends, and generally drink too much and have as much fun as I can.
I was dissappointed to not play in the big 40k events, but know better for next year. And after thinking about it, I'm actually quite happy playing in the smaller events.
Greatly looking forward to the non-gaming aspects of Adepticon as much as the gaming part of it.

Last year we were ticketed for 100 Teams and ended up increasing the limit to 110. Currently that is simply the ceiling for us in terms of terrain, tables, room in the hotel, staff and reasonable turn around time in between rounds. We tried to put the idea of hard limits out there, but with the event selling out in 30 days (the 40K Championships sold 256 tickets in less than 21 days), not everyone had a chance to fully digest that. So it is a combination of all the factors you mentioned. We'd love to be able to run 125 Teams/500 players, but it just isn't feasible. For 2012 (our 10 year anniversary) we might have some additional options.
MagickalMemories wrote: One of my buddies emailed the organizers that night but, to the best of my knowledge, they hadn't gotten back to him as of last night. So, it's not that we haven't tried that approach.
I received an email from Thomas and have you guys on the waitlist - I just need to respond to about 10 recent requests. He should have something today or tomorrow. But, see below...

This is most likely a correct observation. We might get through a few teams, but 25 would be difficult.
If you decide not to come - send me email at info (at) adepticon . org with your order numbers and I can arrange to refund the Weekend Badges that you purchased.
Warhammer 40K tickets at AdeptiCon are a dwindling breed. The Team Tournament, Championships, all the Killzone events and 1 of the 3 Combat Patrol events are now sold out. This only leaves the later Saturday Combat Patrol session, the Sunday Combat Patrol session and the Sunday Gladiator. If you have any interest in any of those events, I wouldn't hesitate. They will most likely be gone by the New Year.

I still think it'd probably be worth coming, playing in the Gladiator and Combat Patrol (which people have raved about the last few years; I finally signed up for a session this time), hitting some hobby seminars and just walking around and SEEING the enormity of the team tourney and championships. The spectacle is really enjoyable, as a 40k fan. Your mileage may vary, of course.

While borrowing terrain is an option, we still simply have the space limitations. The grand ballroom is going to be 100% full on Friday and Saturday.
Additionally, there is a logistical limit to the event. The collection, collation and recording of game results is a bit insane - not to mention the additional work required in terms of paint and theme judging. 100-110 teams is the current limit for all those factors. Perhaps in 2012...

As people already said, there are still fun events left.
Combat Patrol was so popular and sold out so fast in past years that they finally made several sessions of it this year. I signed up for that.
Gladiator's a lot of fun, and you get to see and play against big, crazy cool armies. I did that one last year.
Also, if you go, you may still be able to sneak into the team tourney. I think every year I've been at least a couple of the teams wind up having a player bail out at the last minute due to travel problems or issues at home. These teams then are stuck with three guys the day before the tournament, and post up on a whiteboard by registration (and/or on the Adeptus Windy City forum) looking for someone to fill the empty slot at the last minute.
The Championship is tough, though. Now that it starts Friday there probably won't be nearly as many dropouts as there used to be when it was on Sunday, with so many people exhausted and/or hungover.

Where does it say that? The 40K Championships, by definition of the format, had a 256 ticket maximum.
Getting on the waitlist now puts you in the 37th or 38th position. Realistically, we are not getting through that many people this year. If you are planning on attending anyways, I'd suggest grabbing tickets for another event - if a 40K Championships ticket opens up - you can trade those other tickets in on the 40K Championships one.
The waitlist does carry over to the day of the event.

Drive 7+ hours to a tournament with only hopes of playing......would you? I'm sorry but combat patols and Gladiator just aren't my cup of tea, I want to prove myself against the best....I just today got response from my employer that I could have that weekend off to attend........
Now that I am off work for the weekend and know I can be there, I would pay ANY PRICE for a slot in the championships............................ Automatically Appended Next Post: I believe I saw that a couple weeks back before all the updates were posted to the website, I believe I printed it out, I will check when I get home..

Well, everyone has their priorities. I have to say that the other events are a lot of fun too.
You might be able to buy someone's ticket off them.
Matthias, is that allowed?

Easy enough. Just start paying people to not go to the championships until 37 people drop out.) I'll be happy, I'm only 25 down.

....and lo!.....The Age of Sigmar came to an end when Saint Veetock and his hamster legions smote the false Sigmar and destroyed the bubbleverse and lead the true believers back to the Old World.

See, that's the thing.
I *don't* want to go play Gladiator. It's all about the FW, and I just don't have the kind of armies to compete against that hard core group.
As for the championships... eh. I'm just going to have fun playing 40K with my buds. The TT allows us that perfectly.
I'd do other things while I was there... but the TT was our "draw" to get there.
Now, if we were allowed to buy places in the tournament from others... That might just be something I could arrange for the TT. Obviously, it would have to be for the whole team, though. Not just a spot.

Really, it's not. I liked bringing FW stuff, but (outside the silly year of unassaultable Reaver Titans) it's generally more effective to bring more standard stuff. And it does have an interesting format this year, what with the sideboards.
But yeah -Adepticon is all about the Team Tourney for me; everything else is fungible.
