How do people get most milage out of horrors??Should I take some a few big units (2x 12 for example), or many smaller units (6x4..)Or should I just not bother?

Hey Son of Deddog,

Depends of course. I used to use a squad of 9 Horrors w Bolt and Changeling in my main Fateweaver list. Over the course of a year I've found them to rather consistantly underachieve. Ive cut that squad down to 5 Horrors with Bolt and Changeling. IMO anti-infrantrypower is found more efficiently elsewhere in the codex (Fiends, Flamers, Crushers, Hounds, MC's, etc.). Anti-tankpower on the other hand is rare. So getting more Bolts in your list by using the Horrors is valid.

If you're going mono Tzeentch you need some bigger squads to thin out Horde lists. In most other lists I'd say you can easily go with smaller squads and use them for scoring and situational support.

As for the just not bother part? You need some troops. Granted, Daemons need comparitively few troops choices to remain valid since the pressure the rest of the list applies makes them relatively safe. Also, troops (up to ~1700/1800 points) are not too appealing compared to other slots. You'd rather fill your lists with the great HQ, Elites and HS choices. In my lists I take 2 PB squads and 1 minimal Horror squad up to 1700 points. Only when making bigger lists I sometimes add more. The point is: you need some troops, and Horrors are a perfectly cheap and valid choice. Plaguebearers have the disadvantage of not packing a great punch and Letters and Nettes need numbers (and thus a greater pointsinvestment) to function...

I use them in 5 man units with bolt... pop vehicles and, sometimes, anti-infantry. Thats 15 str 4 shots a turn! Larger units are overkill I think. Makes them easier to get assaulted, which horrors suck at lol

I use units of 5 horrors with bolt as the core of all my demon armies with the exception of a Tallyman list.

At 95 points you get a squad to drop into cover and throw a bolt at armor or MCs every turn. Your opponent will feel forced to commit resources to stopping them while your real hammer units (DPs, fiends, crushers) drop a pain train on them.

I think I've just not used them to their full potential. I was taking large units (10) and using them as a first wave, anti-infantry unit; DS behind a soft target and try to shoot them as much as possible. I've not used them with BoT, and not really bothered with cover-wil try your suggestions;thanks

I use them as a strike force that target units that like to sit in the backfield. Lootas, Broadsides, Artillery, that kind of stuff. They can be a real nuisance if you land near or in some cover.

Honestly, I'd only bother with a Changeling toting Horror unit as an escort for the Blue Scribes. For most intents and purposes, it's the "Tactical Squad" of Daemons, right down to sucking in assault. Though it can get a fair bit of shooting...

Horrors really should have been BS 4...

I suppose the assault 3 weapon was supposed to make up for it, but in play, it really doesn't. I'd just like to be able to split fire. As it is now, the bolt renders the rest of the unit worthless.

So long as there's infantry available to shoot at, warpfire is probably going to do a lot more damage than one S8 shot at BS3 at a vehicle.

The daemon codex is absolutely terrible when it comes to dealing with almost anything at range, although horrors can devastate most infantry with a single volley, and soul grinders get an S8 pie plate to accomplish much the same. Antitank is mostly limited to greater daemons, daemon princes, soul grinders, fiends, and especially screamers, all in melee.
