Hardened Veteran Guardsman

Hello people,
I have so many imperial guardsmen at this point I'm getting sick of the same stuff.
I play a horde army, of guard.
I think some small Elite force would be cool. And Close combat.
Chaos or smurfs? Templars or angels? Space puppies or blood suckers?

Grey Knights. Nothing says elite like the rumored 2 wound Terminator army. Otherwise Space Wolf Loganwing.

Many hope so. The last two 40k releases have been rather powerful releases, so most Grey Knight players will be happy just to match the quality of those....then again, most Grey Knight players will be happy just to field an army that's updated.
I'm personally hoping it turns out well.
---
I would recommend waiting at seeing how the Grey Knights turn out, but if you find yourself unable to do so....
Vanilla Marines don't field the best assault orientated lists, at least from what I've seen, neither do the Dark Angels unless you go Deathwing..and even then..., and the Black Templars are rather hanging out waiting for a new codex release, although they're certainly decent in the right hands.

Dante Sang Guard Army can be pretty powerful too. Think of them as faster terminators with no invul saves.

You can easily pull off having a small, elite melee force with any of the space marines chapters, including chaos, then eldar and tyranids as well.
You can even manage it with orks, though it's tricky since you need two warbosses and two meganob units as troops, though it's better using one warboss, the mad doc for the invun upgrades and some minimum basic fodder troops. Then you can just max out on battlewagons holding meganobs and pretty much steamroll anything you can catch.

Yeah, go for a DoA army. Its fun to play, very versatile, fast, and hard hitting.

Black Templars can be super assault marines.
every space marine squad with chain swords over bolters.

Well the new rumoured Daemonhunter/Grey Knight dex might be a solid choice. Even now, Grey Knights alone can make an entire playable army which has quite a low model count.
Space Wolves can be very interesting with all thier hidden gems. Especially on Grey Hunters. You can tool Space Wolves a good amount of different ways to get different play styles.
Black Templar and Blood Angels can easily out-class Space Wolves in hand to hand. If you want to make a Hand to Hand Space Wolf army, you can sometimes be required to know when to show your hand and when to hold back. Mind you, I'm talking about not just using 3 packs of Long Fangs and Thunderwolf Cavalry.
If you want an all out hand to hand army from the Imperium your best bet is Black Templar or Blood Angels.
Space Wolves can come out on top when they can control the tempo.
Black Templar are pretty damn good at just smashing into things with superior numbers and buffs. Blood Angels are a lightning war kind of army. So many fast vehicles. One of the best Razorback and Rhino armies out thier. Thier Descent of Angels stuff is cool too.
From what I know, Blood Angels fight a lot like Black Templar, accept they usually put down a huge torrent of fire and charge with smaller units than the Black Templar.
That's all IMHO though.
