Someone here is playing this game. Dish for us. The models are cool. Want to know if the rules are the same.
On the surface, DUST Tactics looks like what AT-43 ought to have been. One-color priming with good molds.

Download the Rulebook and see for yourself.
The boxed set is very much a board game. There is a promise of a tabletop battle game rulebook TBR in the future. Till then, they're great figs for my other Weird War games!

I noticed that the boxed set was retailing at $99 at my LGS, which in my opinion, was a great deal for what you get!
I also noticed that the store carried 5-man units for $15-$20 as well. I'm hoping to pick some up for a few homebrew wargames.
I'd love to see other people's impressions on the actual game, since I've been wondering about picking a copy up.

Thewarstore.com has it for $69.99 with 5.95 shipping. Ive seen it other places for around $69.99 + shipping.
Im not too big on the whole board game aspect of it, but Im going to pick up a copy for use with a different rules system.

Is it possible to play Dust tactics with normal movement rules, so without the tiles?

They have said they will release a seperate rulebook later on to let us do this. For now, all we have is the board game rules.

I've been fooling around with it for the past week. I'm completely in love with the minis, the gameplay (which I feel is far more balanced than 40K) and the universe. As far as I'm concerned, they can't release expansions fast enough right now.

We are hooked on this game in my circle. Veteran gamers love it, my girlfriend loves it, even my 13 year old Stepdaughter will throw it down.
It is fast and brutal. The tiles make tedious measuring non existent, and issues such as line of site and cover absolutely 100% clear.
There is little math necessary to run the game. Convenient charts (on the laminated unit cards) and dice which produce a "hit" 1/3 of the time are all that is utilized.
A bit of damage tracking for life of walker, observation of which troops you select to be killed and whom to fire (it is WYSIWYG with special weapons) and pronunciation issues (the German weapons are aptly named) are the only small stumbling blocks during my demos.
The backstory is awesome, the minis well detailed and easy to paint. The soon to be released nazi abomination apes are not hippies with cigars. The game is quite gritty, which we all enjoy.
Scenario and other special mission possibilities are nearly endless. Currently we are designing a mission, all using tiles and terrain included in the basic box, for armed US soldiers to escape from a German prison via a few select sewer grates scattered around the board.
I cannot articulate how much fun we are having with this game. And my veteran AT-43 buddies want to use TT free-measure conversion rules, plenty of which are already online.
There are a few limitations to the game -- it will not be for everyone. But if the minis and backstory appeal to you, as well as a system where you can play 3 absolutely rousing matches in an hour and twenty minutes, then by all means, purchase it today.

I really am looking forward to eventually picking this game up, but those types of comments make a bit nervous - until I remember this is a board game after all!
I am looking forward to the 'official' Table Top rules, but I am doubtful we'll ever actually see them...

I think the official rules will be released, as FFG is very supportive of their games, even systems which fall off the mainstream table or go out of print.
If they are not, house rules for free measure table top can already be found all over the net.
Give the original intent of the game -- using tiles, that is, in a "board game" style a chance. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised and find it a total hoot.

I bought Dust Tactics a week or so ago and have been having a ball playing it.
The tiles and squares make all the measuring and LOS discrepancies of "other games" (I didn't mention 40K) just go away. The rules are simplified but it doesn't make the tactical decision making any simpler... in fact it tends to allow you to focus on the decisions and not on the mechanics.
Now instead of saying "I hope I can get those troops into assault range, hope this difficult terrain dice roll goes good... D'oh!" you think "Do I sacrifice this Rangers squad to let the Assault squad get into range with their Flamethrower?" or "I'll jump out into the lane of fire and we'll see if it's my tank or his to get the first shot!".
The models are a little bit of a mixed bag but mostly positive. There are a few fiddly bits (especially on the Walkers) and some of the weapons on the troopers suffer from bent barrel syndrome due to the soft plastic. A little dab of super glue here and hot water there fixes both right up. The designs of the models are outstanding and the Walkers really are nice little kits in their own right with lots of details. The troopers too have a lot of character and will be great once painted to a good tabletop standard.
For those liking WW2 themes or giant walking Tanks, this game is highly recommended.

Review available to see what is in the first core box!!
http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Dust_Tactics_Core_Box_Review#Dust_Tactics_Core_Box_Review Automatically Appended Next Post: Now that is out of the way. Let's talk about the game, I like the fact that the Luther has an anti-aircraft gun, though it is in the initial release we have been told that aircraft will become available and already they have the weapons to counter.
It just goes to show that the whole game has been thought out and not just portions and then they will update as they go along.
Which is huge to maintain but good to start with.

We'll see aircraft in a year or two I think.
It's slowly being built up really. We've started out with a pretty grounded slew of core releases dealing with infantry and robots. Each expansion builds on this from the look of it. Cyclone gave us artillery and command squads proper, next up are lighter robots, heavier infantry in power armour and angry, angry gorillas. After that, zombies! Can I have a feth yes?

Of course this game hits the spot for all of my imagination desires. Pulp combat in all of its forms.
I really like how the units have specific combat roles. When you place a unit you know what to expect from them each time. The dice mechanic lets you clearly see what your units can go up against. One quick question lets you know how your unit will perform against the enemy and that question is what armor does that unit have? A 2 perfect hahaha.

So, I had a big Amazon gift card to spend so I just ordered the old starter set. I'll probably get the newer starter set too when it comes out.
Mostly just getting it because I like the models and wanna paint them, but .. did they say when the regular table top rules will be done?
For the boardgame version, is it mostly just a couple units and a robot, or can you put together a bunch of tiles and have big 40k sized games? Or would they take too long to play and get boring? I want a game that's good for quick games with small armies, but I'd like to be able to have the occasional epic battle too.
Does Axis vs Allies = Germany vs US? What about russia, UK, japan, etc?

From the times I have played the games are fast and furious. Nothing like what is required for 40k, especiall prep time.
A lot of the time it takes is about postioning your guys just right and then maximizing their shots for the best kill ratio compared to your opponent.
Much like chess you have to sacrifice the few to win the game.
Size I don't think would be an issue combine a few box sets with a few expansions and wham a 6x4 game ready to go with no tape measures needed.

cool .. also for the new point values I read about.. is it just a PDF you download with the new values on it? Do they sell updated versions of the cards or do you really not need them? I guess if it's just a point value I could just write the new one on the cards I'd already have.
