Hmm not sure if it was wh40k or company of heroes, but when people complain about slow cars driving in front of them I usually advise them to shoot the rear armor for maximum efficiency!... or I like to imagine outflanking in every given situation with someone yelling "Creeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed"... I can be more social with people and 40k is one of my most favorite things to do over things like video games and crap that I would be doing alone or whatever

I stopped drinking heavily at the bar (can't afford it. Cuts into model purchases)

Brings my son and I closer as we spend a lot of time modelling and playing games against each other.

Gives my wife something to complain about.. then I say "if the worse thing that you have to complain about is my little plastic soldiers then I must not be too bad a husband. Right?"

40K indirectly affected every aspect of my life. if it wasnt for 40K I would have never gone into arts, never found that I had the skill to get into animation, and would have never met the friends I have now (it was because I overheard my future friends talk about space marines that I first talked to them). One of my friends who is good in business was also introduced to me via 40K. I may have sunk alot of money into the hobby, but I will never regret it.

Hasn't really.

The 'red wunz go fasta' idea was around for me before the game.

It gives me a game I can play in between beers at the club (otherwise it was between beers at home.)

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

I have actually done very little in terms of actually playing. I just keep with 40k now to meet people, as no matter where there will always be someone up for a game.

I was standing in the elevator with a few people at work. They are tiny people, not that I am all that large myself at 6ft flat but I had a few cut scenes in my head with a chainsword and seemed to be able to relate to the size of a marine...

800 brethren and 2,000 other personnel were expected to reach Crows World within no more than 12 hours. They never arrived.

It has also improved my writing skills. Almost five fold. And has given me inside info on really really interesting ideas about governments and history.

It isn't 40K. It's 40K combined with tha intawebz that has influenced me so badly...

To quote a certain Mr. Kurtz: "The horror! The horror!"

"We train young men to drop fire on people, but their commanders won't allow them to write "feth" on their airplanes because it's obscene!" (Colonel Kurtz in Apocalypse Now)

And you know what's funny? "feth" is actually censored on a forum about a dystopia where the nice guys are the ones who kill only millions of innocents, not billions.

Well it's just another game in the pond for me, however this one is the most adaptable and most time consuming, as I have always been hesitant about certain prep factors....but alas those are gone now...
And it hasn't changed my spending habits its just shifted from a few other games into one game.

6 months into this game and I've probably spent $400 US dollars on stuff, supplies and codexes and while only playing two games in that time...of course the prep time for IF is killer....

It all began one random Christmas when i was little and parents thought it was a good idea to buy me gorkamorka.
After playing some games with my parents/local friends on the carpet, kitchen table, garden patio, i was... encouraged to go to the FLGS.
What a big mistake that was.
I'm not even sure my parents wallets ever recovered from the following years.

Now, i wouldn't change any of it.
All those long nights painting, the inhaled glue fumes, the part of the carpet that got sprayed black, that time i stuck my fingers together, that time i cut into my thumb and swore i saw bone...
It all seems worthwhile when i consider the friends i've made... technically, most of them, considering i hardly keep in contact with any previous groups and the fact i've met people through meeting people through meeting people etc, including my fiance (who dated a guy, who knew a guy, who went to GW) and who, after FOUR YEARS! eventually got into the hobby and has so far beaten several of my friends with her "Pinkdar"

Some of the best times of my life have been spent with people i've met in that cold little store with bad carpets, wether that be actually playing games, going out to the pub, or just hanging out doing nothing at all in particular. It one of those hobbies that encourages you to communicate, you have to talk to game, and you end up talking to people you've never met before like you've known them your entire life.

I think it'll be something that'll stick with most of us our entire lives. And you'll always remember silly little quotes from the mainstream or just from your own little group while going about your daily life.

Well, i could be worse, someone i know tried calculating how much it would cost, and where he could get the parts, to build a dreadnaught...

This time around, 40K became a therapy for my head injury, what with the planning and counting of dice and everything. My first game back in July, I literally needed help counting out the dice and couldn't read the results myself. I have come a long way since then!

It has also allowed me to reconnect with fellow 40K players who watched with some amusement for a good five years or so while I tried to get everyone excited about "other" games.

I get a sense of accomplishment from finishing up army projects. I have finished my Space Marines, given my Dark Eldar an organizational facelift to go with the new Codex, I have some minor decorating to do to finish my Eldar, and I need to paint one Inquisitor to finish my Witch Hunters.

Good times!
