For my SM Scouts, I'd like a recipe for a nice woodland camo please

Cheers Guys

Here's an awesome guide on various schemes by GW themselves (for IG):

If you want to be simplistic, Ijust used slightly watered down Chaos Black on Catachan Green for this Ranger, the pattern is supposed to resemble the camo on the 'Eavy Metal Hammerhead:

If they're wearing cloaks, you can go mad with mud/damp/bases and draw the eye to that.

I think the Wasteland Camo scheme on the article I linked you can be adapted to look nice as a foresty scheme, as I've done on my IG. You just reduce the size of the Bleached Bone... generally you do "splodge" shapes, I always do two little blobs of Dark Flesh (no more than three prongs) roughly opposite one another on the edges of the Bleached Bone blobs, it looks pretty good.

Another great source of inspiration is modern military camo schemes. This is my version of UK woodland using Catachan green, Graveyard Earch, Scorched Brown and black.

The key thing to remember with camo is that the pattern is designed to disrupt the outline of the wearer. There is no point having blobs of colour in the middle of big flat areas. Always run your pattern over edges and obviously man-made or artificial lines.

Oooh me like

Looks like it takes more effort than "splodging"

Heh, a bit more perhaps, but not too bad. The graveyard earth splodges are the most annoying because you need 2 coats to cover properly. The scorched brown and black areas you get by gettinga fine detail brush and jittering it through the other colors in as random a pattern as possible.

@Clumpski - Nah, its my CCS. The storm troopers are a bit more involved

Fantastic detail in the sculpt and painting on those modern troop models, but the faces... I can't stop think "HERP DERP! DURRHURR." when I look at them.

As for camo recipes, I would actually look at the GW tutorials, as they give some pretty simple but apparently effective methods. In general, my $0.02 is to keep things simple. Camo can only scale down so much before it A) ceases to be recognizable and B) becomes damn near impossible to actually paint. Flinty's camo is fantastic, but that's about as fine as I would ever try and go. You can still get a nice effect with fewer and larger swaths of color. In fact, that may be more effective, at a distance.
