* Daemon Prince (400pts)
Level 1, Mark of Tzeentch
o Bloodcurdling roar, Third Eye of Tzeentch
The Mk of TZ provides a nice 4+ ward save. The 1 level of magic gives a shot for GateWay, but is really there to use 3rd Eye of TZ and cherry pick the best available spells.
Roar is pretty popular - bit of a long shot, but it could thin out units of knights or even a steam tank.

Third Eye, Roar, Fury of the blood god, and at least a level 1, maybe up to a level 3 if you've got the points.
405 to 485 points.
I like the lore options for daemon princes, because sometimes you don't get good 3rd eye options. I'm fond of heavens, because you aren't likely to run into an opponent with heavens, so you get a more diverse list to choose from.

DP can be big fat monsters or big fat monster casters. One problem is they are monsters so they are single target. As casters, they are on their own.
Some of their anti-caster stuff is very nice. And marks are super nice. I'm not sure why they aren't more popular, excepting cost. And I think people get a little nervous about the lone model thing.

Big lone caster is certainly part of it as well as a fairly high point cost, but honestly he's more survivable than my Lv.4 on a Pegasus and can do more within the game. Once my sorceress tosses a couple of spells that's it, she's done contributing. I can't add neat things like Roar or any kind of combat abilities to her.
But then your Prince is competing with Chaos Sorcerer Lords which can be less expensive, better at casting, still survivable, etc.

Boss Salvage has some entertaining and useful reports where he uses a Roar, 3rd Eye, Tzeentch, Level 1 prince. You can find them here.

“It was in lands of the Chi-An where she finally ran him to ground. There she kissed him deeply as he lay dying, and so stole from him his last, agonized breath.
On a delicate chain at her throat, she keeps it with her to this day.”

What keeps me from using the prince is the T5 and no armor, with only a 5+ ward standard. With 6's always wounding it is pretty hard to want to toss him into melee or within range of any volume of fire unit. With MoT it isn't so bad, but still a bit salty. Personally I think the various lords do the same thing for a better price, considering getting a sorc lord a +1 str weapon isn't too expensive, and he will have 4+ armor and an easy ward save to boot. Granted, you can make him as expensive as a prince pretty quickly too, but at the same time he will have armor (though no T-stomp).
I think Salvage's pattern of the relatively cheap prince is probably the best buy for the points, maximizing survivability and getting some nice spell options and extra damage output without putting oneself into dangerous melees.
