After extensive discussion the feeling of the mods and dakkites is that crooked images serve no useful purpose and should be deleted from the gallery.



Lego has chimed in that a rotate button is something he's considered but it not really feasible at the moment.

So if you have some images like this I encourage you to repost and please check your images before uploading them.

I completely agree - but what if, hypothetically speaking... *ahem*... you just submitted a post featuring eight photos, all of which were taken upright and showed up fine on your PC, only to have them displayed sideways in the post?

Admittedly I should have previewed but I am living in an area with roughly Stone Age interweb tech and previewing takes about three dog years - they are fine in my photos folder and on the original device. Dakka has rotated them, I tell you!

Try rotating them on the PC so they look one turn off from where they display.

I've noticed that in several instances where pictures are rotated that they are taken with a mobile phone.
Its worth noting that for most phones, the camera is meant to be used in a landscape view (like a standard picture).
Holding the phone straight up and down will result in a picture that is rotated, usually with the head of the model facing left.
If you rotate the phone's top counterclockwise 90 degrees, that is the default for most modern phone cameras, and will solve this problem.

What about sideways shots like this?

I would have thought that when photographing a single model 'portrait' would be the logical option...

Unfortunately DD seems to automatically rotate to landscape, hence the problem I had.

Now that I've realised the problem, I'll just have to take two photos, one portrait for my own use, and one landscape for here...

You should be able to set the camera not to rotate?

Could someone please advise how I may remove pictures from the gallery please.
I have three that I wish to remove as they were uploaded when I first joined Dakka. In retrospect they ought to have just been histed in my Photobucket account.

If you click on the image and then on the "edit this image" link under the picture, there should be an option there to delete the picture.

If you clicked the "I own copyright" box when you uploaded them, there's a delete option right underneath the image. Otherwise, contact a mod I guess.

You can also rotate the portrait pics on your PC before uploading. I think Windows previewer even lets you do it right there. I usually just take care of it in Paint Shop when I am cropping out lines of coke and dead hookers.

you've got a dark eldar gallery... i'd say leave them in the pic for those!
