Hi All,

I'm new to the forum, and got dot dragged into 40k by one of my friends. So now I have a the small Ork army to paint from Assault on Black Reach. So below is the first 10 Boyz I have painted from the set. This was my first time painting a mini figure.

Please feel free to give any comments and critiques.

Update, I added some sand on top of the gravel, but still let the gravel show, and added some grass. I think they look alot better, thanks for the tips

Very nice for a first try! Better than some people get after many, many tries!

I like the colours. They seem very light green compared to the 'standard' orks you see- is that a green wash over yellow?

I have recently been diagnosed with swelling in the brain, so please excuse spelling mistakes and faulty sentences. I am losing my ability to type and talk effectively, but dammit, that is not going to stop me from trying.

Quite nice for a first model. Suggestion, work a little on your bases. I use sand, then wash with a brown, drybrush, then add a little grass. I think your basic figure painting is solid. A little work on the bases is easy to do and would really complement your existing work (IMO)

Thanks for the advice. Yes, the Ork skin is painted yellow with a green wash. Where do you get grass for baseing?

It works well!

I get my static grass from e-bay. Sellers there are pretty easy to find, and it's not expensive stuff. You apply it by dabbing white glue onto the base and then just dumping it on. Shake off the excess and you're done!

They look a little... limey.

Ask yourself: have you rated a gallery image today?

Those are really, really good! I love how the yellow green skin contrasts so well with the pinkish color!

Looks very good for a first timer. You've avoided the usual pitfalls of thick paint and going over the lines so you're doing well! I also like that you've drilled out your barrels, that makes the weapons look a lot better all on it's own. Keep going and you'll have an army to be proud of.

Way better than my first Orks, as I also started with AoBR. And all I had were enamel paints and no washes XD. Great start, sir! Welcome to the hobby.

And you can find static grass from many different brands and flavors from most hobby and craft stores.

Clean crisp and look great together as a squad. Excellent for a first try, I like the skin tone especially.

I'm liking the brighter skin tone than most orks look.

Definitely good for a first timer!

Nice work for a first time. Usually Orks are darker than this, but I like these guys nonetheless. As for the bases, try painting the rim Scorched Brown or Graveyard Earth.

Well, I have my second round of Boyz painted, another 5 of them. I tried to give some more detail such as damaged areas of the painted armor. I also went with a darker skin tone.

I also painted up some marines that my buddy has (he paid for the Black Reach if I would paint his marines). He wanted a Raven Guard theme, but with his own adaptation, so its not Raven Guard verbatim. I need to work on my highlight lines on the edges of armor, but for a first attempt, I think they came out ok.

The ork skin is silly good. The marines are ok but lack some detail and highlighting, they look kind of flat right now.

Really great start to the hobby! The only thing I would suggest is to be careful when painting the eyes it looks like you have gone over where the eyes are a bit but practice will slolve that. Keep up the good work
