Subject: Live versions of songs that are better than the original?
i've found 2 so far.
Iron Maiden's live version of "Phantom of the Opera" from the Live After Death disc. I
thought it was much better than the origianal version with Paul Di'Anno from the first Iron Maiden disc.
and the Live version of "Outside" from Staind(well Aaron anyway) from '99 Family Values
is WAY better than studio version they put out later. Even with Durst there screwing it up
the live version is way better, IMHO.
I'd love to hear some more!

Off the same album "Loverman" and "Astronomy" were also much better.
However; "Turn the Page" was a piece of excrement compared to Segar's.
Like Cake's "I will Survive" better than the origional.
Im sure I'll think of more later.
OOPS heh.... you said "Live"
Yep, live. but those are some great covers!

Asherian Command wrote:"Hysteria" by Muse Believe it or not but the live one is so much better.
"Viva La Vida" by Cold Play. Can't really appreciate it as much.
"Eye of Tiger" by Surivivior. More people rock out to it and the crowd goes crazy over this song.

+1 to both!
gotta wake me after inna gadda though!
i have 3 more my son just reminded me of.
"Third Eye", "Aenima" and "Jambi" by TooL.
we caught them live last June. the whole freakin' show was outstanding,
but they really knocked it out of the park with those 3!

Social Distortion's 'Telling Them' from Live at the Roxy is fantastic. Actually the whole Live at the Roxy disc is one of the few live albums I like at all, and I LOVE it. It really captures the energy of the band and has great production.

This is my favourite version of Wouldnt it be good by Nik Kershaw.
I like most of the S&M live versions of metallica songs, not sure if they are better than the originals though.
I saw a version of the song Crazy done by an all female band during the break in a Rod Stewart concert that was great. Before you ask they were free tickets from work. Im not paying money!

100% Agree, I've seen Social Distortion live several times and the "Live at the Roxy" CD really does capture the bands energy quite well.

Automatically Appended Next Post: The worst sounding live song ever is "breaking the Habit" by Linkin Park. (The only song I even come close to liking by that band)

When TISM used to play the song 'I'm on the drug that killed River Phoenix' they would blow up a jumping castle on stage and pull people up from the crowd to jump around on it.
Certainly one of the more surreal experiences I've had a concert and whenever I've heard the song since it just lacks to 'oomph' of seeing it live.

We are arming Syrian rebels who support ISIS, who is fighting Iran, who is fighting Iraq who we also support against ISIS, while fighting Kurds who we support while they are fighting Syrian rebels.

I know a lot of people like to knock KIZZ,but let's be honest...they were one of the most influential bands in modern music history.
However it really wasn't until the release of their "Alive" album that they really started to garner any commercial success.

Howie Day's live performances are far better than any of his studio work. I'm not a big singer-songwriter type fan, but that kid rocks out.
The Police had some amazing live versions. Their extended jams on Hole in My Life are awesome.
Peter Gabriel's got some all-time classics, like a couple versions of his Biko, from the 80s Amnesty International benefit concert series, which he used to end the shows with.

I can't stand listening to live versions of songs. Hearing the crowd cheer ruins the music for me.
I just want to listen to the music, not listen to a bunch of pathetic teens cheer on their latest mancrushes.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

I'm not painting everyone in the crowd as such, merely giving an example of the type of person who would bei n the crowd screaming at the top of their lungs in the middle of a song.
Something which GREATLY annoys me. If "live" music didn't have any cheering in it, I'd be perfectly fine with it.

I get what your saying, but certainly a "live" performance with no cheering would indicate that the band isn't exactly doing a good job entertaining the crowd.
Speaking from my own experiences in bands,I quite enjoyed it when a crowd was yelling and cheering when we played,it was a sure sign,to me at least, that they were all enjoying themselves.

Well, aside from the smell, and the people getting uncomfortably close to my personal space, and the mosh pits.

Why would I want to participate in a mosh pit? I just want to listen to music.
Why the feth can't people enjoy music without thinking of the social culture around that music's genre anymore?

I think it's entirely possible to do just that, taking things back to personal experience again, when we played, there were people moshing (or slam dancing as it was called back in the day),people hanging out listening ,people socializing...people enjoying themselves in whatever way they personally chose to.
On the occasions that I now attend concerts/shows I don't see that all that much has changed.
