Hey guys,

Just for fun, I made a assaulty ninja-Tau list. Here's was my list:

Shas'o
TL Flamer
Vectored Retro Thrusters

2 units of Crisis Battlesuit (3)
TL Flamers
Blacksun Filters
-1 unit has a failsafe detonator

Crisis Battlesuit (2)
TL Missile Pods
Targeting Arrays

4 units of Fire Warriors (12)
Pulse Carbines

2 units of Fire Warriors (6)
Pulse Carbines

Eldar:

Phoenix Lord
2 Units of Dire Avengers (one of 6 and one of 5)
2 War walkers with scatter lasers
1 Wraith Lord with a bright lance
9 banshees
1 Wave serpent with brightlances and a shuriken cannon.

We rolled Spearhead and Seize ground with 3 objectives.

My plan - I figured that I could hide a small unit of fire warriors in the back with the two objectives while the rest of my army ties down the Eldar. If I assault, I'll try and pile in as many units onto one eldar unit as possible. I made my army so every weapon is an assault weapon, so I can whiddle down the eldar a bit before assault.

Here is roughly what happened by turn, I'll have some pictures of the game up later:

Tau 1
I moved my hordes of fire warriors forward. I managed to shoot some Dire Avengers, and inflicted minimal casualties. My commander and flamer suits moved closer to the enemy, and my missile pod suits took out a war walker.

Eldar 1
The eldar use their brightlances to take out my crisis suit unit, and inflicted next to no damage against my other ones.

Tau 2
My commander and flamer suits flamed the first unit of avengers, and left only the Phoenix Lord, and then assaulted them. My fire warriors took more pot shots, and almost killed all of the second unit of avengers. My missile suits took out a second war walker, not shabby rolling.

In CC, the Phoenix Lord and my Crisis Suits did nothing to eachother. My commander broke out of combat at the end of the turn.

Eldar 2
The Eldar take more shots at my Tau, do little damage. The wraithlord flames a unit of fire warriors and kills them all. Then the banshees come out of the wave serpent right next to my fire warriors.

Tau 3
My Missile suits blow up the wave serpent. My 3 units of fire warriors unleash buckets of dice on the banshees, and then assault them. My commander joined the assault. My spare fire warriors units assaulted the phoenix lord.

In CC, the banshees kill 2 fire warriors, I kill all the banshees. That, is my ninja-CC tau at work.
Against the phoenix lord, my crisis suits and fire warriors do nothing, and they take a wound. They both fail leadership and fall back. My failsafe detonator goes off and explodes in the phoenix lord's face, but does no damage...

Eldar 3

Phoenix lord shoots at my crisis suits and does nothing. Wraith lord assaults my fire warriors, but doesn't kill any.

Tau 4

I shoot with every unit on the table at the phoenix lord and kill it.

The eldar player only has a wraithlord left, so they conceded.

Woohoo for ninja-CC tau!

In the end, I lost about 2 units of fire warriors, and a unit of crisis suits.

Sorry if this is a horrible batrep, its my first.

Here are some pictures, I have more that I'll put up later. Btw, those marines are proxied as fire warriors, because I don't have near 60 fire warriors laying around.

SICK!

This is definitely hilarious. Were you guys using proxies or something though? I see space marines and.. guardsmen? Maybe?

Yeah, every marine you see (scouts, assault marines, captain, and normal marines) is a counts-as fire warrior. Really, what Tau player has 60 pulse carbine fire warriors sitting around?

I was surprised at how well my fire warriors did. They could do some serious damage from shooting, and then the shear number of dice on the assault made it so I could win against almost anything, and in this game, that was the banshees.

Sorry about the blurry pictures, I'll have some more up soon.

Sorry, TB, but given this colossally stupid move, I have say that you need to try the list against a more competent opponent.

I mean, c'mon! He got the banshees out for a round of shooting??!??!

Yeah, it was a newbie player, their fifth or sixth game,

I'll go against our more experienced Eldar player this weekend, its either him or a ork and a nid player... and no matter what I can dish out, I couldn't take either of them with this list... especially when they are now expecting it.

The newbie also hasn't ever gone against Tau, so weapon names don't mean anything (i.e. Missile Pods).

FYI. Ninja tau involve using the positional relay to send in unit a turn until the last turn then moving everything on on the 5th turn for objective grabbing and overwhelming your enemy.

Also interesting list but if you faced anyone with a lot of AV you would certainly bump into a lot of trouble.

Yes, well, I know what everybody in my gaming group has for armor, and so I was counting on my knowledge that there would be too much to take care of.

I could try the positional relay. I also think that JSJ is a viable ninja-tactic, so I may get gun-drones in my next game.

Hey, it's the colossally stupid newbie here. At least I got my girls out of the Serpent before it blew up! My mistake was not getting out on the other side so that I'd have the Serpent between my unit and the fire warriors. Mistake to learn by, huh. As for the placement of the Walkers, The terrain wouldn't have been viable cover for me to shoot through - the pilot for the walker (since firing goes by line-of-sight) was below the top margin of the ziggurat. Otherwise I would've done this. Question, though - if I would've had them in trees, and the pilot was still above the top of the trees, would the Walker still count as being in cover? Even though the top half of the Walker's visible over the top of the trees? Hmmmm...

Its okay. I think your mistake was putting the banshees in the Wave Serpent, and also you spent half of your points on HQ choices... which always isn't the best, even if the units you are choosing are good.

To be completely honest I knew that the eldar player was going to lose when I first read the two lists. there are sooo many more bodies in the tau army compared to the eldar that I just dont think that was enough forces to do any good.

He should have dropped the phoenix lord because they are a very expensive HQ choice and there are things that would work better at low point games anyway. Taking a farseer would be cheaper and better as you could give him, fortune (so that squads would be able to survive better) and maybe even eldritch blast, its low strength but most tau is low toughness so it shouldn't be much of a problem. It will definitely give the farseer a lot of killing power to at least make up for the small amount of troops.

Meeka - you mean just any old Farseer, not Eldrad?

Yes just any old farseer. Eldrad is amazing but he is also very expensive.
I wouldn't use him unless it was a 2000pt battle or higher cause he would take up too many points.
