As we all know Skyward Sword will be out some time in the near future.
What are your thoughts on this game?
Will you be buying it?
Personally I hope that it's longer than Twilight Princess, and it wouldn't be to hard to have the option to refight a boss or play the special moments again,(not the actuall story events but a mini game with the same mechanics) for example the Jousting inTP.
Do NOT post spoilers on this tread,if you know something about the plot, keep it to yourself.

I'm looking forward to it. I wish they'd announce a date already. I haven't touched my Wii in over a year, this is about the only thing that'll get me to turn it on again...

For a brief moment, I wish one could play as Zelda for once.
Then, afterwards, I remember the two games where you DO play as Zelda, and wonder of these wishes would lead to them making really bad game designs.

Two games?
Are you counting the CD-i games? Or do you mean Spirit Tracks and some other game I can't recall?

The Wii is dead, and Zelda, unfortunately, has to be it's Dialysis. The 3DS is where it's at right now, until Nintendo makes hardcore stuff. When was the last time a Wii game was #1?

It depends on your definition. I don't have sales data in front of me, but it seems reasonable that the Wii console has outsold the 360 or PS3 respectively, but not combined. It may be close though. On the other hand, many of those who bought the Wii did so because of it's novelty factor. People who usually didn't play games bought a Wii, had fun playing some Mario and Wii sports and then gave up on it. People in general don't seem to be buying that much games for the Wii (I base this upon empirically gathered data ), while PS3 and 360 owners usually have a smaller mountain of games, peripheral equipment, a lot of DLC and a Live subscription (might not apply to PS3). The console sales themselves don't generate much profit, it's the games and peripherals that bring in the dough. Besides, with the recent release of Kinect and Move, I think Wii will see a drop in sales.
Rant over, lol.
I'm not super stoked over Skyward Sword, but I wouldn't mind playing it. I think I need to bring out the old Gamecube and fire up Wind Waker and Twilight Princess now.

From wikipedia, sales of consoles in the US:
Wii – 30 million as of 10 August 2010
Xbox 360 – 18.6 million as of 31 December 2009
PlayStation 3 - nearly 12 million as of 14 April 2010
I wasn't far off.

This should be a good game.
I liked Twilight Princess too, though. I was surprised at all the nerd rage directed at it. The Wii has a lot of bad games but Nintendo generally does the right thing with its flagship releases.

You are right about that. I laugh inside a little every time I see someone trying to trade in a Madden game that is like 2 years old. Gamestop rep: "We can give you $1.00 for it..."

US sales, yes.
World sales (millions of units)
Wii: 75,9 (September 30, 2010)
360: 50 (January 6, 2011)
PS3: 41,6 (September 30, 2010)
My argument was that the number consoles sold isn't the only measure of it's success. Most units sold doesn't necessarily result in it being the most successfull (economically).
The Wii isn't dead, but it's improbable that it will last much longer without some great innovaton. Just by glancing at the sales figures since it was released, it seems that the Wii has, or will, reach it's peak in sales really soon. Sony and Microsoft seem intent on making this generation the longest living to date, and I'm afraid the Wii won't survive 5 or so more years. In the long run, maybe even the PS3 will outsell the Wii?

Somehow I doubt it. The wii has still been incredibly successful for Nintendo, not just as a console but also the games on it. They're tapping into the casual market like a hose to a fire hydrant.

Exactly my point. The casual market are prone to fads and what is in style. I would compare the Wii to a pair of American Eagle ripped up jeans and the 360 and PS3 to a good pair of Levi jeans.
The levis are for people who want a pair of jeans that will last. They are not going to buy a pair of jeans that are ripped up and will fall apart in less than 6 months because they are in style.
The Wii will appeal to a lot of sheeple but they will abandon it eventually. However all Nintendo has to do is make another Wii with better graphics and sheeple will get that console.
@Inanimate: Oh yeah, the PS3 will outsell the Wii before it is over. When the Wii is abandoned, the PS3 will still be selling units. They sold 147.6 million PS2s as of November 2010. The Xbox, (abandoned, could have sold more) sold 24+ million by May 10, 2006. In comparison the gamecube sold 21.74 million by 2007 (discontinued) and the nintendo 64 sold 32.9 million by August 2002.
Just by 5th & 6th Generation sales figures, you can see that Sony is in it for the long haul. Hopefully the 360 will follow suit but it could just as easy be abandoned.

Frankly if casual and indy games stop selling, the game market itself is over.

You kind of just agreed with me you know. Casual game are always in style. I said the same thing, but I am also saying that they do not last. The people who buy casual and indy games move on to different casual and indy games. They support the market just as you say, but it is support that is defined by a console that goes in the attic after 5 or 6 years versus being played by someone all the way into the nostalgia years. The Wii will not sell 147.6 million units.

... yes, which is why they're so successful. Indy and casual games are easy to make, after all, and so they are very profitable compared to the amount of money put into them.

The great myth gamers tell themselves: that hardcore and casual are the only two options and that you have to be one or the other. I know plenty if non-casual gamers that own a Wii and will play it as long as any system. Of course being real gamers that only define ourselves as gamers, no silly labels, most of us own each system anyway becuase it isn't about brand loyalty or being hardcore or being casual. It is about the games! Some casual games are awesome, some more complex games are awesome. I'm not passing up a good game becuase of some goofy preconceived notions of what it means to be a cool gamer. Real gamers don't care, they want to game. So we go right on playing our Super Mario Galaxy, Demon's Souls, Mass Effect's, and Angry Birds side by side.

I know plenty of folks who definitely aren't sheep that love their Wiis very much. I think it's still a great system, the only reason I switched to PS3 was that I wanted a blu ray player and it was the same price as stand alone players so why not get a game system too. No matter who buys it, I think they did a heluva job proving that you don't need hardcore graphics and bleeding edge technology to put out a successful game system. In the end, all you really need is fun factor.
That said, I wish it did have better graphics power and HD

So, the Wii is just selling well because it is a trendy product? As opposed to the Move and Kinect? There are plenty of good games on the Wii, Mario Galaxy, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Twilight Princess, etc. Nintendo has shown that while they try to appeal to all audiences, they will not mess up their long time franchises, and that is why I still like them the best. My point is, Zelda isn't the only good series by Nintendo currently, they just don't have good 3rd party support, but do they really need it? About Skyward Sword. I'm not exactly stoked, but I think it will be good. Oddly enough I'm looking forward to Ocarina of Time on 3DS more. @Necros Yeah, I wish Nintendo would up the graphics too. I know its pretty much their philosophy that relying on HD graphics doesn't make your games better, and I agree. I just want them to do it to shut up all the fanboys who say the Wii sucks just because it isn't on par with PS3 or 360 in terms of hardware. But the 3DS is 3D, which is better than HD, and without the glasses. So in the handheld market, they win.
