I mean packs bigger than a battleforce, where many more things are packed. I remember Chaos had the Renegade Strike force which had a Defiler, Land Raider, Vindicator, 2 Rhinos, 20 Marines, Terminators, and Lord. I know most other races had similar deals, though I don't remeber what they were called, and now they are unavailiable. Should they bring them back?

Probably work

You can still find them, you just have to look harder. I got a SM Megaforce from CCGArmory. I want to say I got mine at a crazy good deal too. 175 USD or something like that.

They didn't sell well. Many stores sat on those big boxes for years, which is why you can get good deals on them. There's not a lot of reason to make big boxes that duplicate existing stock, especially when they have a huge pricepoint.

....and lo!.....The Age of Sigmar came to an end when Saint Veetock and his hamster legions smote the false Sigmar and destroyed the bubbleverse and lead the true believers back to the Old World.

They made sense as splash releases for Apocalypse and around the holidays. I do really miss the old army boxes though - the ones that were akin to a megaforce, but came with a codex and an exclusive model. I know a few came out for the Storm of Chaos campaign, and I got the Dark Angels one. You saved a bit of money with them too. Then they renamed them "Spearheads" and they didn't come at a discount anymore, and didn't have exclusive models. Makes me sad.

Was it called a "Mega Force"

I remember these as limited releases (now called splash releases) They had an insane amount of product in them for a cheap price. Hell even the old battle force boxes gave you more "bang for the buck"! There is actually a limited edition "Praetorian" guard army box set on e-bay now.

If they could put together something similar today, I would consider a purchase. Grey Knights Mega Force!!!!!!!!!!!

Years ago, im going back a way but they used to do army deals all the time. i remember the ancient wd when they did the stealer cult bit you could buy the stealer cult army deal in the back. I think it would be cool if every once in a while they fetched out a special "limited ed" army deal with an exclusive mini and a little discount or some such

I do like me some brigade action. Even if, in the end, it works out no cheaper for me than buying the models individually (as I ended up not using any of the light cavalry in the box, due to not liking the figures/finding they didn't fit in my force. Though I did paint the wolves - lovely old figures).

It's a bit sad that they seem to have fallen out of favour, but if they weren't selling/generating enough interest, I can see why they'd drop them.

Still, I'd have loved a brigade-equivalent for Gondorian forces. A Dark Eldar one (once all the waves are out) would have been fantastic, too. I don't imagine it'd have suited my Daemonhunter collection much, though - not really a good fit for small-but-elite armies.* A non-peasant-dominated Bretonnian brigade would be something to see, for example

*Edit - though I see Cable disagrees with me on that

I think part of the problem with them was there was always that '5-man dump squad' like the 5 snipers in the megaforce box. What's the point? Either jack up the price another 10 bucks and give us the whole squad or drop the price 10 and take it out. I would rather have seen a three-pack of bikes in there than the scouts.

I agree with this. A lot of these deals had something that never seemed to be a good fit.

If another supplement is made for 40k, I'd love to see boxed sets come back, even for a limited time. I remember when Apocolypse first came out, there were massive box sets for everythig. My favorites (which I didn't get to purchase) were the Emperor's fist tanks and the Eldar Jetbike formation. The Space Marine battle company was impressive, but at the time, half of that box would have been useless (thanks to 5th, everyone could have used the rhinos later).

The difference between commitment and involvement is like eggs and ham; the ckicken was "involved", the pig was "comitted".

The Space Marine one was one of the best 40k buys I've ever made, it was enough bits to trade for whatever I wanted, enough models to make any foot/mech army I wanted, and was CHEAAAAAAAAAAP

CHEAAAAAAAAAAAAP

If the new DE models had one I would have bought it when I started my army with them. The way the prices on those things work out it's ridiculous.

Unfortunately, I have not found the Renegade Strike Force on the internet, and I've been looking for a while.

I hope GW comes out with some more, as I would probably buy two of them the second the hit shelves, now that I actually have some money nowadays.

Did they give you special shoulder pads?

I think the problem is that their target customers usually don't have the cash to pick all of this up in one purchase (their target buyer is between 14-18) and then while you're buying it at a discount, you don't need everything there. I bought the Chaos Strike Force and still haven't built the defiler (it was the only way to get the new codex a month early and same with their plastic termies).

My first purchase was the 3rd edition starter set - and I thought I jumped in too deep from the start!

While a lot of the Apocalypse boxes sat on the shelves for some time, I could see the three packs of vehicles selling well these days. Anybody who's gonna buy a Leman Russ is gonna want three, right?

I loved Megaforces. I got the SM, CSM and Tau one. I also got the Apocalypse Chaos Spawn 10-pack. They saved me a lot of money, so I can see why the concept is unappealing to GW.

I wish they would do these for the new releases, allowing the codex to be bought a week or two early or something of that sort. Maybe even direct only, too. I bet it could be done.

I like the idea of army box sets but a lot of times you might get some models in there that you just don't want.. like, I got the chaos marine army box set when that came out last, and I still haven't touched the 2 plastispawns that it came with.

I know they hate giving discounts on their website, but it would be cool if they would put together direct only army deals for a discount, then they don't have to blow extra cash on printing boxes & advertising. Or at least bring back the apocalypse formation deals.

i just had an idea.. this probably could get its own thread, but since the idea is similar in vein to this one, what the hey...

What if, instead of shelving/stocking certain, larger "megaforces" where GW claims to give you a discount and savings on those models compared to buying them yourself, how cool would it be, if you could go on there, click your favorite army, and load up a personalized, custom "megaforce"??

That way, you could build your own megaforce, that is customized to YOU and your army, they could easily set this up in a sort of "tier" system, where you buy X troops and Y transports, you save Z over buyiung them individually.

Yeah, the old Army Boxes were a lot of fun. At the old Dakka Dakka store, the tradition was that when someone bought one, the big front cover image (of all the models) would be cut off & signed by the player, and hung on the wall in the lounge area. We were papering whole walls with those bad boys.

I miss the Army Boxes soooo much. A hobby Town here still has like 4-5 of them, including the last Empire one and the Middenheim one. I WILL buy them both as a start for my Empire army.

If they were actual deals ( see Apoc splash releases for decent deals on some of the boxes), Yes I would by them .

I bought The Tau one as well as the DA one and the C:SM Spearhead.

The more recent ones either cost you more than individually buying every thing or saving like .75 on $500 at retail...where you could get most of it 25% off from most retailers...

I bought a battalion box of Wood Elves almost a year ago now, and honestly I wish I'd bought my units individually because the sheer volume of items to assemble I've found to be overwhelming. I would not buy an ever bigger box.

painted: 12 dryads,9 glade guard,2 glade guard scouts.
assembled but unpainted: 2 glade guard and the lord's bowman, 8 glade guard scouts, sexy elf lord
in the box: , 8 glade riders, , one female spellsinger, Orion, Ariel, the faerie queen. SOB immolator, 15 sisters.

Volume pricing makes a lot of sense to me. It's a shame they don't do that. Then again, it's unlikely that GW would beat the 20% off you get from non-GW internet retailers. Speaking of which... are there any internet retailers that offer bulk deals like that?

Maybe they could do them on a made-to-order system? I had a problem with a LR i bought & the customer service guy did say the boxes were hand-packed.

Don't know (or think) this is the case for everything but I imagine they could pull some sprues off the line and combine them into one box.

Not a business or industrial guy so I don't know how cost-effective that would be.
