I am absolutely terrible at painting detail. I can drybrush ok, and apply washes, but that's about it.

Is there some simple face painting method, that is only 2 or 3 steps, that gives adequate results? Basecoat X, Drybrush/Highlight Y, Wash Z? Thanks in advanced.

Personally I paint them elf flesh, wash with flesh wash, wash the lips with the dark red wash, paint the eyes black, then place a very watered down drop of white on the eyes (it should then run into the corners and edges of the eyes and leave the centre black).

Basecoat Tallarn Flesh
Highlight Elf Flesh
Wash Ogryn Flesh
Repeat the highlight of Elf Flesh

That's how I do it. If you can do it well, the results are pretty good.

Over black primer: flat coat of dwarf flesh, drybrush elf flesh and wash - usually scorched brown for normal i.g troops.

This is a silly question, but if I have elf flesh but no dwarf flesh, and I want to start darker, could I mix elf flesh with a brown as the basecoat?

The way I do faces is simple, and apparently pretty good.

Starting with a black primer...

I put down a thin coat of a dark brown color (the color I use for my armor, it's a little lighter than GW's Dark Flesh). This seeps into the cracks.

Then, optionally, I put some bleached bone on the highlight parts, like the nose. I don't always do this, though.

Then, I paint the eyes. Thin slit of white. Small black dot.

Then I paint tanned flesh over everything but the creases in the skin, which I leave brown.

Sometimes I go to more effort to make it look fancier, but it really is just a three-step process for me most of the time. As for how it looks, just look at my avatar for an example.

In general I basecoat with Tallarn flesh, wash with either gryphonne or Devlan and then another going over with Tallarn. Sometimes use bleached bone to lighten it. Depends on the model.

A very simple and effective technique that I used when first starting out was on top of black base coat, add a coat of tallarn flesh, wash with devlan mud and apply small highlight of desired flesh tone (dwarf flesh, elf flesh, ect) to raised areas such as nose, some cheeks maybe chin or whatever is prominent on the model. Later you will want to add more layers but if I am in a hurry i will still use this method .

My method is quite simple. Prime whatever color you want. Base coat Talarn Flesh, wash with dark wash of your favor(I use a light body black wash, devlan mud works too though)
heavy highlight with a light skin tone( I use Reaper Pro series Elf Flesh in most cases), wash with Ogryn Flesh, touch up finer highlights with same skin tone.

My way is:
Dark flesh
highlight tanned flesh
wash watered down ogryn flesh
highlight tallarn flesh
highlight elf flesh (or rotting flesh if its chaos or somthing like that)
