I like the scheme. Do you have a backstory for why?

The idea of a grey chapter with blue chapter markings is cool, although I'd prefer it not being called "Ultramarines". You could turn the "U" upside down and call it somewhat different.
Paintingwise, they look good, especially your chaplain's crozius and the landspeeder.

What exactly would be the reason to paint it grey?

cheers my first ultramarines were blue i decided to add some of the newer models and i couldn't match the colour as gw's paint range had changed so i tried grey and thought it was cool

Fluff or otherwise, that's a nice way of making an army that is on the one hand clearly ultramarines, and on the other, not the exact same blue army everyone else has.

where am I? *looks around* Well i'm...errr...I...I...don't know!

Since the U of Ultramarines is an omega symbol upside down (there are already Omega Marines I believe) so what about the resistors or Ohm legion? or is it too physicsy?

You can never be too physicsy!

Good thought though, the scheme is awesome. Much more professional than eye-burning blue.

The paint looks awesome and as for the fluff, well, in the end it's your army so paint it however you want.

OH-I Wanna get out of here

They look kinda like they could be 8th or 9th (cant remember which) company of UM. There are some pics in the how to paint SM book with similar colors, though much less used, of both a squad and a razorback iirc.

This made me laugh because the first thing I noticed was the barrels and the mold line right there. I am WAAY nit picky about that onmy models though, and sometimes drill the holes off centered... so I have little room to talk.

Nice job, I love the clean lines and the Chaplain is really sweet. I love the originality in the scheme too!

Nothing wrong with grey ultramarines....they turned out real nice. The consistency in your bases really tied all of the models together...great work!

4250 points of Blood Angels goodness, sweet and silky W12-L6-D4
1000 points of Teil-Shan (my own scheme) Eldar Craftworld in progress
800 points of unassembled Urban themed Imperial Guard

675 points of Commoraghs finest!

Yeah it fits fluff wise as the reason its called CODEX GREY is because it is a alternate paint colour for chapters to use on campaign in gullimans lil book

It is possible for marines to use alternative schemes in some campaigns. For example, in the Badab War books, a whole bunch of Howling Griffons are wearing black, with just their shoulder pads in red and yellow instead of their whole outfit.

Perhaps they were hunting a foul xenos scum that had eyesight particularly keyed to the frequency of blue light, and this was effective camo...

Though guards may sleep and ships may lay at anchor, our foes know full well that big guns never tire.

Ah mate these are incredible

Don't screw around with splinter chapters and all that, they are perfect as a kind of re-imagining of chapter heraldry.

Really inspiring, thanks for posting this : D

I see Beekies! Proper BEEKIES!!!
Whats more in the proper colour too (as in the old blue not the new blue). You should repaint and rework them into Vets or some thing, make them take pride and place in your force

You can paint SW's pink.
You can paint BA's green.
You can paint ork skin red.

Some people may not like it for various reasons, be it fluff-nazi's, picky with colours or just don't like it. I like it. It works fine and is a nice change.

Im a fan of anything that doesn't look like a GW colour scheme. Also, you don't need a reason for the grey except you want to paint it grey.

I like the idea of it being a campaign color scheme. Also it just looks really neat. Good work!

Several pre-heresy schemes and campaign schemes in various sources show Ultramarines in grey and blue. I think they are perfectly fine the way they are.
