I am thinking of getting the Dreadnought Drop pod but is it 40k legal to play? Also do you think its worth getting something like that for its $90.00 Price point?

Also, would Dread drop pods have diffrent signs or colors to it that would make it different from other drop pods? Like a stripe or patch on it.
I mean the size would obviously make it differnet but do space marines design their dread pods to have a different color like how Sargent have different color helms?

The only specific drop pod for Dreadnoughts is made by Forgeworld and is obviously different from the plastic drop pod in that it has three wide doors/ramps where the plastic one has five. Paint it exactly the same scheme as your troop drop pods if you want. There won't be any confusion.

As for the price point, that's up to you if it is worth it.

Yeah I was looking at that one which is making me...kinda want to get it. I mean if I do than its the only one I will ever get however I am not sure if I should. I want a bunch of other stuff first so not sure if I should wait for it or just splurge on it just to have it.

Truthfully I wouldnt spend the money on the FW drop pod. Yes it is hot looking, but unless your gonna use it in a diorama I wouldn't get it. If you do want a drop pod the is just for the dread I would say get the GW one and just not put the center harness section in, so then it looks as if the dread does fit in there.

Just my $.02

I pretty sure it wouldn't look any different to the usual drop pods they use. So yea i'd stick with the same colours as they rest

Paint it however you want. It could look cool in a different paint scheme if you've come up with a good one, but you don't by any means HAVE to.

As far as rules go, FW stuff is by and large legal only with the approval of opponents, and likely won't be legal in tournaments. You'd have to check with the individual TO in those cases though. That being said, I personally wouldn't find you using it as a "counts-as" stand-in for a regular drop pod in cases like that, and I suspect most other people wouldn't mind either. I'm pretty sure it's bigger, so you'd be more likely to mishap with it. You'd get more LOS through it too.

It would be fine game wise but at $100 it seems like a major rip-off for a model that has almost no actual game use. Highly recommend you consider scratch-building: http://santacruzwarhammer.blogspot.com/2007/11/low-buck-drop-pods-that-dont-suck.html

Unless you really want a 'show off' cool model, save your money and get the GW version.

It's just a bigger drop pod. If you use the standard GW pod that costs 1/3rd as much money and take out the central column, you'll be right as rain.

I have 3 of them... You will never mistake them for a normal drop pod , since they are about 1.5x the size of a normal Gw plastic droppod.

It is a like a good 1-2" bigger in diameter and a good few inches taller.

I bough one for may self a while ago ( 05 atl games day) and the wife gave me 2 more for xmas like 2 years ago.

Are they worth $90+, depends... do you play a bunch of Apoc games then I would say yes, if not no....

As a Forge World product there's no reason any place that holds tourneys wouldn't allow the model to be used in them.

As others have said, they are bigger, they are more expensive, and I've heard that they are more difficult to assemble since the parts are essentially hand made.

That said... they do look pretty cool.

Out of curiosity, are you thinking about using it as a 'counts as' normal Drop Pod, or using the FW Dreadnought Drop Pod rules?

You will only run into issues using it in a game in the latter case - the rules for it are a little over the top in most people's eyes.
