So here they are. My first attempt at painting anything. I thought I would start with Ork Boyz and it turned out quite well. The pics aren't great due to the fact that my Compact Flash card for my DSLR has become corrupted so had to use my digi cam. Let me know what you think.

They're great! You certainly have a steady hand and a good eye kunden. If you were to spend a little time preparing your minis before painting, ie. removing mold lines with a knife or file, and drilling out gun barrels, they would look that much better. Top job though

Thanks for the tip. Will definitely give that a try in future. Hopefully getting some more tomorrow (time permitting) not sure what yet though. Any suggestions (I only have 4 Boyz at the mo)

Ahhh you got the four boyz box, if you got the multi-part Ork Boys boxset (£15.50?) they would give you more modeling variations to your Boyz. Also personally I used the box to make 11 Boyz and then added the Nob free in White Dwarf (converted with a powerclaw from the boxset) so I have a 12 strong mob. You can pick up the Assault on Black Reach Nobs quite cheaply on ebay and use one of those. Just a suggestion as there's loads of great Ork minis to choose from.

its certainly a solid start, id recomend getting rid of the blood on the blade, it can be very hard to make blood look good on models, some people may recomend a wash then a highlight, but i prefer judt doing around 4/5 highlights

Yeah, the blood was more of an experiment really. Just to see how it looks/how hard it is to do. (I found out, very if you're a n00b and you want it to look good).

Really nice start for first attempt. If you want nice and easy shading the GW inks are very good. You will probably notice many people praising them and they can make a heck of a difference to a basic paintjob, helping with shading and blending. I only recently tried them out and now I can't stop experimenting with them. I would suggest you just get Badab Black or Devlan Mud (or both dunno about budget) to start with to try them out.

Also I agree with Boyz ''R'' Us the Plastic Ork Boyz kit is a great starting point to build on your four Boyz as you will have a great chance to experiment with the character and theme of your models and its a great starting point for practising modelling too.

Post some more pics with whatever you do next as I would like to see how you get on and welcome to the community

I have to echo the previous post, you've done an excellent job for a first attempt, bit of a wash and drilling of barrels/removing mould lines and your well on your way.
Also agree that the plastic boys kit is a good idea for your next purchase.

As a first attempt, you've done a pretty good job. Those orks are something to be proud of! Really!

Nice job, dude

Very good for a first attempt. I would recommend layering/highlighting on a brighter green, but that's just my preference.

Did you convert the ork boy with the horned helmet? I don't think I remember any with the horns pointing down like that.

Very well done.

Those models are excellent for your first orks. I've seen painters that have been painting for months and aren't that good. I would say try a wash! Washes are great for instant shading and especially good for orks because you're going to have to paint TONS of them. Washes make basic paint jobs look AMAZING! They bring out details and are just great, I love them.

Good luck!

No they aren't converted at all.

Going to get myself out there today and get the Plastic Ork Boyz kit today and maybe a Devlan Mud wash as well.

Thanks for all the kind words.

Stunning work for a first timer. Heck, that´s good work for some people who´re painting for some time allready. Definitely way beyond what my first models looked like.

You´ll go a long way if you heed the advice you can get in this forum. Especially the mold line removal and wash usage

Yeah! very tidy! inks have already been mentioned - a total must, and basing get a bit of sand, PVA to the bottom and undercoat black. Then just paint up with some basic dry brushing (im sure there are tutorials around). Do those two things and you will be batting well above par in the good looking army stakes judging on what a clean and crisp job you have done there.
