Im looking for suitable candidate models to make Ogrns and rough riders.
My thoughts so far are ogres for ogrns giving them heavy weapon team equipment to hold in there hands. For rough riders they need lances and ive drawn a blank as ive only considered empire cavalry swapping the upper bodies for gaurd unifroms~?
anyone got any advice?

I've seen some conversions for catachan armies using dark elf cold ones as horses with catachans on top that looked pretty cool.

The best Ogryn's I've seen have been made from ogre kingdoms bulls, usually with HWT heavy bolters held in one hand - I'm not sure exactly how you'd modify the back end of the bolter, but it should be doable (maybe shorten the weapon a bit) and you might want to improvise some sort of drum magazine.
Rough riders, brettonian and empire lances? If you want a more technological look, just some plastic or brass rod, with a mortar bomb/some techy battery or explosive bits at the end.
Note that the ogres/ogryns mentioned above, the plate over their bellies was either removed and a stomach sculpted from greenstuff, or the plate was smoothed over and had an imperial aquila sculpted/painted on. Looked great. Some of the ogryns also had greenstuff berets. That looks to be a very simple sculpt to do, and adds a lot to the modern military look. I'm sure there are also a lot of ork or kroot armour plates you could use to give ogryns rough looking body armour.

The rough riders don't have to use lances perse, you could give them something like a bag of grenades or the like to represent their one hit devastating attack. Also there's loads of 28mm heroic bike models that you could use as a base for the rider's mounts, or if you could get hold of some of the old Dark Eldar Jetbikes make bikes from those like the old GW conversion klinic article. As for Ogryns, Ogre Bulls are decent models to convert into them; the barrel off of an ork shoot, plus a drum mag, then the end of of the shoota, make great classic ripper guns. If you want to go for different models there are Cipher Studio's Rohlingsoldat, or the Grunts from Grindhouse Games (if your wanting a more techy look).

How do
I made some rough riders, I used empire pistoliers as a base and assortment of bits I had (mainly standards).
For the lances I used guards stadard bearers arms. Cut the flag off just above the hand then used styrene rod, of the same thickness as the standard pole, to extend them out. Then I used some styrene tubing to bulk up the end, to look like and explosive charge, and spear heads from a beastmen box I had as the tip.

I've started on an Ogryn conversion using Heavy stubbers and Mage Knight Ogre units. They're a little shorter than Ogryns, but they're still about the right size anyway.

Judging From Neil101's P & M blog the perry line seem to be fantastic miniatures and cheap/convertible (heads, arms and torsos are seperate) to boot. The Ogre bull Ogryn Bodge always looks TERRIBLE!!!!! please do not do it... If you have to use Ogre Kingdoms take the leadbelcher kit, at least they can be converted to be holding guns well. For the guns i would suggest converted ork big shooters.

I think Hasslefree miniatures do a couple of Sci-Fi ogres. For the RR's I would recommend the Perry miniatures, excellent value

LOL, that is a head swap on that wardroid. It is one of their system trooper heads, it just looks silly to me. But I do recommend the wardroids, they are great models, I picked one up. They are about the same size as a terminator.

I used Warhammer ogres, but with Ork Shootas, which give a more pistol-like Ripper Gun.
