So this is my first post here. I bought my first GW figs about 13 years ago when I found a second edition starter box in a shop going out of business. They were some of the first figs I ever painted. After that I didn't really get GW stuff, mostly historical until recently I decided to try some 40k again. My army so far is little more than the Assault on Black Reach starter box and a few more figs. No vehicles painted yet (but some are coming). I choose the Imperial Fists after noticing in the codex that their official home planet was Terra and I aslo thought it would be fun to paint yellow. I made the mistake of combining to experiments with the first figures I painted (the black reach box marines) trying to paint yellow AND paint quickly. I succeeded at the quick part (painted all the Marines in the box in one weekend; that's quick for me) but I didn't really get the hang of the yellow til I was done. Anyways, here's what I have so far. I haven't decided how to base them yet so youll notice they are mostly just sloppy brown for now.
Spoiler:

The commander

I tried to do the electric-y sword after I saw it in a white dwarf I think

A Chaplain

These are the fist guys I did. I decided not to correct mistakes and did really sloppy darklining, concentrating on speed. I think they look fine from 'table distance' but they sure won't win any painting contests

Did the Termies the same way

Dred

After I felt I had the hang of yellow I did another 5 Marines, more carefully this time

Then Some assault guys

And some scouts

Just a closeup of the Sarge to show the cammies

a vet
And I just finished this Pedro Kantor fig. I'm not a good modeler so the flag broke off. I'll have to stick it on with some green stuff or something

Hopefully showing them off will keep me motivated and get me some criticism (don't hold back, I'm like super tough ) What do you think of the darker golden amber color I use as opposed the the bright sunflower yellow Fists seem to often get?

That's an army I'm be proud to put on a gaming table. Excellent job, especially since yellow is a tricky color to work with.

Looks great, some simple basing and it would be perfect!

For being concerned primarily with the speed of your progress, your characters turned out quite nicely. Better than some of us who take our time to paint as best as possible. I think the yellow tone is excellent also. Very nice work!

These look really awesome! I like the theme, its not too simple, but neither is it overly complicated, and with just enough detail to make them worth more than just a passing glance!

I slopped on the yellow foundation paint, something darksun i think it's called, to cover mostly the whole fig. I use the purple wash in the cracks and correct any big mistakes with the yellow. The last thing I don on the figs, after all colors and everything is applied, is several quick, thin coats of yellow ink the brighten up the yellow. I do it almost like drybrushing. i failed miserably at painting with the bright yellow paint but found this way I can get a nice smooth golden yellow color

Not the usual method I have seen for painting yellow but I really like your version of the fists.

I really like the camo on the scouts. The yellow doesn't look out of place at all on the trousers.

So, I finally got around to painting something new. This is an old dred I got in a big lot off of ebay a few years ago. It had some broken parts and a bunch Ultramarines iconography on it. Also a broken purity seal on the gun I just left. I glued on some pieces from an ironclad kit to cover up some horrible scars from removing bit upsidedown omega symbols.
I am having a terrible time with nooks and crannies on this thing. I couldn't get primer in without layering it too thick on the outside (it was already superglued together like this) and the paint wont stick to bare resin. Any suggestions?

Also, C&C. I'm fairly satsified with it for a sunday afternoon's worth of work, but i feel like it's kinda plain.

It looks very nice... again to echo what has been said the yellow looks fantastic... only thought would be maybe to include some decals whether applied or painted by hand, on the open spaces of the dread to make it pop a little bit more.

Yellow is a touch bright for my tastes but I like them, and the purple wash idea is a pretty good one that I might steal/adapt.

My only tip would be to do some basing, even if it's just a bit of sand/earth.
