So I have been contemplating taking the leap and buying either a Warhound Titan or a Reaver Titan- maybe even one of each.
I was wondering if anyone owns one of these models and what their advice is on making such a large purchase? Are they worth it? How do they do on the tabletop? What is the overall quality of the Titan kits? Am I insane and hate money?

I don't personally own a titan, but i want one badly. The titan will be the centerpiece of your army, and whether it's walking around, hurling plasma death at people or exploding, taking a third of your army with it, it will be AWESOME.
But judging by the looks of the titans I've seen -I was at the LA battle bunker when they had the largest Apoc game recorded, so I can pretend I'm an expert on the matter- the titans are very nice models, high detail, and well designed.
Ease of painting and construction? Another story entirely.. but hey.. it's a fething titan.

You might want to PM Nosferatu1001 - I'm pretty sure she's mentioned having several Titans (or at least, building several).

Titans are great, but depending on your level of skill and how much time you have, you may find more enjoyment (and have lots more money ) building one from scratch.
Not only will you have something unique, but you will have proved you are better than everyone else

I took the splurge and bought a warhound a couple of weeks ago. I haven't had the time to assemble it fully yet, but prepare for a ton of work just preparing the pieces.
You'd definitely need a razor saw and a variety of CA-glue. Preferrably a really thick one and a regular. A new drill bit and appropriate pins as well since the upper body is made up of some really heavy and solid chunks of resin and I'm not really sure it will hold up for gaming with just super-glue holding the pieces together.
As far as quality, there's nothing I've found yet that makes me feel like it's a piece of gak. Apart from the assembly instructions. You get three double-sided sheets with pictures of partly assembled pieces... one would think that they at least could've made a CD with assembly instructions/pictures.
And don't rush it. There will be a lot of dry fitting, sanding and filing.

What I hear from most people with titans and similar superheavies is that you're basically just painting something that will look awesome in your display case, only to bring it out for a game two or three times a year. With that in mind, it's all up to you.
Granted, if there was a plastic Warhound I'd be on it in a second.

What do people find the best overall deal for the price/compared to size and value.
Reaver or Warhound?

A reaver is so large, you will rarely use it; only in the biggest of games. Warhounds don't pack as much punch, but are fairly good for their points and can be used in more situations. Go for a Warhound, especially for your first one.

I went with the Warhound for the points above. Ease of assembly (resin is a completely different beast compared to injection molded plastic) and "playability". And also to be able to stow it away/fit in a regular IKEA display-case together with some other minis and models.

If you're an excellent painter and wan't to do an excellent job then it will take a long time to complete the Titan. And thats what it pretty much is, a "project". A big one.
If you're happy to just get an airgun or spraycan and do a quick job (and cause many a gamer to cry "NOOOO") then not as much work.
Frankly I personally wouldnt mind doing an (Eldar) titan but only if my army was finished and I was looking to expand.

Something else you'll need to do is some greenstuffing and sanding, so make sure you get some dust masks. Resin dust is very nasty to inhale.
You'll likely get a couple of peices that aren't the best quality. Forgeworld will replace any outright broken peices if they arrive in that condition, but sometimes you'll get pieces with a bit of extra resin on them that will need to be cut or sanded off, and maybe green stuffed.
My Hierophants front legs need sanding down, and some of the detail is filled in and will need to be filed out. You will have an easier time of it with a Titan, since it's a lot of flat panels for the most part.
The main thing is, it will take time and effort. Put the time and effort in and you'll have a fantastic centerpiece for your army on display and a powerful unit that looks awesome on an Apocalypse table.

as stated....costly, lots of work but so totally worth it when done well. i have a friend with a reaver titan and he says its the most fun hes had on building a model. (waiting for replacment of miscast parts not so much but otherwise, yea)
ive also dealt with FW in purchase of some fighters and an eldar titan, and so far my exp with the FW team has been positive.

Buy it if you've got the time to do it justice. I've never had a large block of time available to wallow in the modelling project.
Get the Warhound, and use what you learn building and painting it to make the Reaver even better.
