I need a way to afix my crisis suits and firewarriors without permamently attaching them to the base. I just ordered new bases and they are taking longer than anticipated to arrive. I have a local tourney this saturday and need a way to play with the models without putting them on the old bases again (the suits probally couldnt handle being taken off again- the chicken legs). Any ideas? I have tried sticky tacking them...didnt work too well

would that cause any kind of melting issues to the mini?

It shouldn't. I've used the hot glue when I was younger as a gap filling technique, and it never did anything to harm the model

Just my 2 cents

You could also try blue-tac, also known as poster tac. It's a sticky-ish putty that people use to hold up posters and test fit miniatures. I've used it for masking and for temporary adhesion before.

That was what I used earlier. How do you get it sticky to where it will hold?

If you're willing to drill into the feet, maybe you could use a temporary pin? It would also help to affix them permanently to their new bases when they arrive. You could also use the pinning with the blue-tac for a little extra hold.

I always use superglue to stick models to the base, then I can snap them off to scenic-base them later.

I would use a *tiny* dab of superglue under one of the toes, and then you should be able to get a craft knife or something underneath to snap it off later.

I am currently taking commissions.

There are some brand name modelling glues which, from experience, are god awful. I used to use a Revell glue (with a metal injector-style applicator) and it would stick things together but apply any sort of force and it would just come apart.

Failing that, paint the bottom of the foot and the base and glue them together. I've found paint-to-paint gluing doesn't work very well as it's the wrong surface for it to adhere to properly as you're essentially gluing paint together. Rip it off after the game and then give underneath a quick file. Obviously best to try it before you commit.

I've done this before and provided you don't go overboard it should come off with very little force but then again I was working with ork models which can be a bit more robust than Tau.

Hot glue comes in two varieties, "Hot" and "cold". both are hot enough to hurt, but the cooler glue (usually ministick types) melt at a lower temperature. The low temp hot glue works great for temporary attachments, won't melt your models, and as a bonus is pretty easy to pull of and clean up after. The only downside is strings. I used hot glue to make my foam trays for my army case, and for weeks after my models had little strings of hot glue stuck to their spikey bitz.

If it were me, I would glue a pin into the model's foot, a hole in the base, and then use blu-tac on the underside of the base to secure it. Should stay on fine during a game, and it'll be easy to take off.

Thanks for all the advice...I think I'm going to try the small super glue method, and if that doesn't work go to pinning

Id vote for the pinning technique. Its a little extra work, but it will give that peace of mind once they are on the right bases that they arent going anywhere.

I'm both orderly and rational. I value control, information, and order. I love structure and hierarchy, and will actively use whatever power or knowledge I have to maintain it. At best, I am lawful and insightful; at worst, I am bureaucratic and tyrannical.
