Forge World Newsletter #264

11/02/11

Hi There, We have a newsletter packed with Imperial Guard releases for you this week: a brand new super heavy tank, three new detailed infantry upgrade sets and two new transfer sheets. We also have more information about our first three events of 2011, and we’re also making a few changes to the process of placing Reservation orders for the Open Day, so read on for more.
Thanks,
Ead Brown

Malcador Infernus Heavy Tank

Malcador Infernus
The venerable Malcador chassis, a precursor to the Leman Russ battle tank in the Imperial arsenal, is capable of mounting a wide range of devastating weaponry. The Malcador Infernus is one such variant, and is armed with a centre-line Inferno Cannon capable of engulfing the enemy in a storm of burning promethium. The Infernus is a powerful weapon deployed both against enemy fortifications and massed infantry.
This resin and plastic kit, designed by Phil Stutcinskas and Daren Parrwood, will be fully detailed in Imperial Armour Volume 11: The Doom of Mymeara, published later this year, but we have managed to secure these experimental rules that you can download now.
The Malcador Infernus is available to pre-order now for despatch in the week commencing the 28th of February

http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Downloads/Product/PDF/i/Infernus.pdf [Experimental Rules]

Cadian Hostile Environment Conversion Sets

Cadian Extreme Environment
Many worlds in the vast Imperium of Man boast conditions inimical to human survival, yet are critically important due to the mineral wealth they contain or their strategic worth. Imperial forces fighting in these deadly warzones rely on hostile environment equipment to enhance their body armour and survive.
The Cadian Hostile Environment Conversion Set contains 10 resin torsos, sculpted by Stuart Williamson and Mark Bedford, for use with the plastic Cadian range of kits available from Games Workshop.
Mark and Stuart have also sculpted the Cadian Hostile Environment Plasma Squad which contains enough resin torsos to build three Special Weapon teams, and again is suitable for use with the plastic Cadian range.

The Cadian Hostile Environment conversion set and Plasma squad are available to pre-order now for despatch in the week commencing the 28th of February.

Imperial Guard Transfer Sheets

Imperial Guard Vehicle Transfer Sheet
Two new A4 decal sheets are also available to pre-order in this Newsletter – the Imperial Guard White Vehicle Transfer Sheet and
Imperial Guard Black Vehicle Transfer Sheet. Each contain well over a thousand individual decals including regimental insignia and blazons, kill markings, vehicle names in different styles, and also feature both the Aquila and Machina Opus symbols – a plethora of different decals to truly individualise your Imperial vehicles.
Both the Imperial Guard Black Vehicle Transfer Sheet and the Imperial Guard White Vehicle Transfer Sheet are available to pre-order now for despatch in the week commencing the 28th of February.

Forge World Events News

The Forge World Open Day, Nottingham – 3rd April 2011
Sunday the 3rd of April 2011 is the annual Forge World Open Day at Warhammer World here in Nottingham. The Open Day will run from 10am until 4pm and as always will be free to attend. The facilities of Warhammer World, including the world-renowned Bugman’s Bar, will be open as normal.

There will be two studio stands at this year’s Open Day, allowing both the Forge World and Warhammer Forge teams to fully showcase work-in-progress projects, recently released kits and even a few forthcoming models that haven’t yet been announced! Also occupying the two Studio stands will be the Forge World Book Design team, who will be showcasing final proof copies of both Imperial Armour Volume 11: The Doom of Mymeara and Tamurkhan: The Throne of Chaos.

We will also be bringing you a sales stand packed with the Forge World and Warhammer Forge range, our Charity Titan Raffle, fantastic participation games and our annual Open Day Painting Competition, which will be judged on the day. Entries should consist of a single Forge World miniature or vehicle, which may be mounted on a display base if you wish.
We will soon be accepting reservation orders for collection at the Open Day, and in 2011 we are altering the system for placing these in light of the feedback we’ve received over the past year.
We will be taking payment for reservation orders in advance, which will allow us to set up a collection point for these orders that is totally separate from our main Sales stand. This will help to minimise the amount of time spent queuing as you’ll be free to collect your order whenever you like and enjoy the main event.

We’ll be announcing when we will be accepting reservation orders for the Open Day in forthcoming newsletters, so make sure you check your inbox and our Events Pages regularly.
AdeptiCon, Chicago – 1st – 3rd April 2011
Forge World will be attending AdeptiCon for the very first time in 2011. This event, held at the Westin Lombard Yorktown Centre in Chicago, IL, is one of the premier shows of the wargaming calendar, and we’re very excited to be attending.

Graphic Artist Kenton Mills will be one of the intrepid team that will be manning our sales stand at AdeptiCon. Kenton is a talented member of Forge World’s Book Design team, and his work can be seen in our recent, best-selling, Badab War series of Imperial Armour books.
Our stock will include limited numbers of all the releases announced in this week’s Newsletter, as well as the Plague Toads, Bile Trolls and Plague Ogres recently announced in the first Warhammer Forge Newsletter.

Reservations are now closed for AdeptiCon, and if you have placed an order for collection you should have received a confirmation e-mail – please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any queries. We hope to announce more details about what we’ll be displaying at AdeptiCon in the coming weeks, so make sure you keep an eye on your inbox for future newsletters.
Salute, London – 16th April 2011

Forge World will again be present at the ever-popular Salute 2011, held at the ExCel Centre in London on Saturday the 16th of April. Our sales stand will be packed with Forge World’s range of resin kits, modelling supplies and Imperial Armour books, as well as the newly-released Warhammer Forge range, a few secret projects that we’ll be announcing in future newsletters, and elements of the Warhammer Historical range as well.

We will soon be accepting reservation orders for Salute, so keep an eye on our Events pages and future newsletters.

Like that they're Hazardous Enviro Cadians instead of just Cold Climate Cadians. Now I'll actually get some for my Traitor Guard.

Somehow Forgeworld keeps managing to make me want a Guard Army of my own. I honestly have NEVER seen the appeal till I started looking at DKOK and now those extreme temp ones. Very cool looking stuff.

At least the Malcador Infernus makes for a better flamer tank than the rest of the Malcador series succeeds in their own roles. It's still underarmored and extremely fragile, but packs a proper inferno cannon that'll really mess up the one unit per game it gets to fire it on before being destroyed.

The supply does not get to make the demands.

Damn. Those Cadian upgrades are really nice and are pretty much what I was aiming at for my guard conversions...

I just noticed the respirator heads are attached to the bodies *phew* I was worried that they would insist on the respirator upgrade as well.
I may actually use them instead of making my own in that case...

the cadian packs look ok but frankly not too much better than the standard ones... in the end, i see them as a nice replacement for kasrkin if you don't want metal figs. the paint job, however, is a lot worse than what forge world normally has on their site, though.

as a side note, are the stubbers on the infernus malcador tank the wrong strength or are FW superheavy stubbers just different? they're listed as str5 on the pdf but IIRC other entries have them at strength 4.

Cadian upgrades are practically identical to the 'Cadians w/ respirators' upgrade sprue, only the backpacks are different. I'm a little disappointed in that, I was hoping for balaclavas, ski masks etc. Ah well.

The plasma squad is an awesome way of getting a tri-plasma squad. They should run with that idea for all the special weapons.

I also guess that 'extreme weather' pretty much guarantees an ice/snow planet so perhaps Space Wolves are due for some FW goodness next?

Actually...it's not. The respirators on the head are attached directly to the backpack tank via a small hose, which isn't present on the others.

...Really?

IA11 is set on an ice planet, Space Wolves, Elysians, and Cadians are fighting the Eldar.

I didn't realize that the Malcador was going to be a super heavy. Only 2 structure points, but 270 points isn't bad I suppose. I wonder how long this thing is? I was guessing about the size of a chimera.

S7AP3 Apocalypse Flame Template placed withing 18" of the barrel sounds fun!

Sorry, I hadn't heard all the rumours about IA11. Will be cool to see what they do with the S. Wolves though.

Still not 'wow'-ed by the Cadians I'm afraid, small connecting hose or not.

Pretty disappointing, backpacks are easily had from 3rd parties, used quite a few on my hybrids, and the rest seems like respirator head recycling unless I am missing something else... they could have done a lot more IMO.

Underwhelming release. The decals only have a few new additions and are for the most part a rehash of their old A4 decal sheet and the super-heavy tank decal sheet from GW. As for the Cadians, while nice I was expecting more I guess, especially for the prices given. All they did was add a bulky backpack to a regular torso and a respirator head.

1. Yep. Those are brand new.

2. No idea. Black Templars use the Maltese cross. Is there an IG regiment that uses the iron cross?

I thought it was an optics unit or something attached to his helmet.

Hrm?

The sergeant has a targeter molded onto his visor, and the others look to have armored 'sleeves' attached to their breathing tubes.

So, if I understand this correctly, the Malcador flame tank shoots a template 18"

Can it be blocked by LOS?

I loathe that trailer. It seems so horrifically out of place in a futuristic setting. It's the 40k equivalent of truck balls.

What were you expecting from a Cadian environmental suit? The armour is a modification of the standard Cadian pattern armour, with additional heating and oxygen cabling to keep them warm and breathing. Anything else wouldn't really be recognisable as Cadian...

For me the paintjob has done a really bad job of promoting these, but looking at the unpainted pieces compared to the previous Cadian resporator pack, these guys look much nicer and are slightly cheaper.

I can only assume that most people's disappointment was because they expected greatcoats for the winder theme
