Ok, this army is completly new and foreign to me. I play a footslogging hoarde / kan wall army.

Lady Malys
5x Trueborn w/ 4 blaster, venom blade, and raider w/ flickerfield
2x 10 Warriors w/ shredder, splinter cannon, venom blade raider w/ flickerfield
Ravager w/ flickerfield
6 Reavers w/ 2 cluster caltrops

I just got this army that I am painting for a friend, so I get to play with it.

Advice on how to play it ? I am mostly worried about going second. Should I just hold all in reserve so they dont get blasted ?

I play vs guard, marines,tau and orks mostly.

Gaurd is all Mech. Chimeras, russ'es and Vendettas
Tau is all mech. Devilfish and Hammer heads
Marines is guess what all mech.Rhinos and a land raider
Orks are speed freak with lots of trucks

I've been playing a lot of smallish games with the new DE codex. I usually run with everything in raiders, fly around from cover to cover, picking out targets as I go. I have not tried using a special character yet. Usually I just use an Archon with a venom blade in a wyche squard for under 1000 point games.

I wouldn't worry about going second, providing you can hide your raiders to deny targets for your opponents first round of shooting. Adding the -6" to weapon range upgrade will further diminish your casualties first round, and help out with any melta things later on.

Try deploying your army spread out, in hopes that your opponent will do the same. Then on your turn group everyone on one side of the board and take his stuff out one at a time. He'll spend a few turns getting his force back over to you.

Your army is fragile, use terrain and cover to your advantage. Minimize your exposure to the enemy while focus firing your opponent down. You hit like a truck, just make sure he can't hit back.

So the night shield are worth it ? I dropped them so save points

It's not gonna out range you against a missile, but it may save you from rapid fire bolt guns or a melta weapon. Definitely put it on your Ravager if you can spare the points. You can sit comfortably at 36" while similar weapons will fall short. Bottom line - the night shield can be worth it.

very useful against orks.
Fairly useful against other races. Ravagers stay at range and are more expensive to start with so I would upgrade one there. I always take them, as I hate dieing to bolter fire.

Im not a fan of Special Characters but doubly so in small games. Lady Malys is immune to psykers, how many are you going to see in 1000 points? Redeploying your army, I say thats again better in large games. She doesnt have much of a save in CC and her unit is not particularly nasty.

If you want a true horror of a blaster squad to run around I would go with 6 trueborn, 4 blasters and then give your archon a blaster, Djinn blade, and a shadowfield. Thats a 7 man unit with 5 blasters. You could also include a blast pistol on the dracon for 6 blasters at close range. But why run so many blasters? Wouldnt shredders be better against hordes?

If you wanted to save points I would go for a succubus or haemi for your HQ. The reavers are also probably best left at home in small games especially if your opponent is all mech.

Do not, by any means...put nightshields on any of your vehicles.

I don't know where you're getting the Venom Blades from because none of those squads can take them. If you mean Envenomed blades on the raiders, don't bother.

Drop Lady Malys, add an Archon with Soul trap, huskblade, shadow field. Put him with trueborn.
Drop the Trueborn squad down to 4 and put them in a Venom and give the venom another cannon
Drop the shredders and give the warrior squads blasters. Shredders are garbage and since your opponents are primarily mech, you want to do more damage to tanks.
Give 2 Reavers blasters or heat lances. Those s6 hits won't help if the infantry are all in their metal boxes.
