I've been inspired by some of the lovely girls that have been posted up over the last while so here is my addition: Arwen from Lord of the Rings. She'd been sitting with the basic colours for while, but I've just finished her this week. Would love any constructive criticism on the paint work. I'm just starting to use a wet pallete and finding it really helpful. I'm not very good at faces generally, this is pretty much my top level so would be interested in any tips on improving.

thats quite nice.
The face could do with being neater, but you said your not very good at faces anyway.

The white is possibly a bit too messy.

I like this, I find faces difficult too (especially pupils in eyes!) and zoomed photos are really unforgiving on them, but this looks good and I bet it looks brilliant at actual size.
I like the overgrown look to the base, what did you use?
If I had to change one thing I would highlight the hair with a colour that isn't so close to the face colour, maybe a light reddish brown?
Nice work though

Her clothes look good and the hair isn't bad either. As for the face, I think more contrast in the eyes, and less in the lips might yield better results.

I also think the sword might benefit from looking less metallic - the clothes look almost like pastel colours, and I think getting a similar effect on the the sword would look good. I've found that mixing metallics with non-metallics can give you a "less metallic" colour that looks less out of place - try adding white or grey.

All that aside, the base looks lovely and the piece as a whole is good. Well done.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Will be trying to take this advice on board for the future, I have some escher girls and infinity miniatures I want to paint as guard in the future so I'm really wanting to get the face thing sorted.
@rodgers37, White is more cream in reality and yes is a bit messy (looks worse in the photo) since I started of trying to do a lace effect and then backed off deciding I was just going to make a mess.
@Daedricbob I've been collecting scenic bits and bobs for a while, Woodland scenics, gale force nine, mixed lots from ebay, and stuff I find. Then I just keep sticking it on until it looks good. I like more rather than less on bases. I nearly did a reddish highlight on the hair but chickened out I guess I should have gone with first instincts.
@ The dreadnote, I messed up the eyes and had to repaint them so many times I doubt I'll go back to them now but will try out what you suggest on the next model. With regard to lips I've had difficulty making them visible so probably went to far with the pink this time. The sword was mithril I originally wanted it really bright. Ooops as soon I painted the other colours. I toned it down a little with some blue and green glazes to create some tone and shadow, Would probably have been better to do a metallic/plain mix from the beginning, have done this on other models.
