I play Warhammer, 40K, Magic, some D&D, and a mountain of different board games. Are there any magazines out there for me? I used to love the old Dragon magazines, especially when they would include little Steve Jackson games in them. Obviously, Dragon is dead and gone. So, are there any gamer magazines left (in particular, magazines that aren't just one long advertisement for a company's upcoming new releases)?

Wargames Illustrated? I've never heard of that one. I went to the website, and it looks like it's completely focused on historical miniature wargames. Is that correct? Do they cover any other types of games?

There are quite a few PDF magazines available.

Some are good and very professional, some are more amateur. As they tend to be free though, that's OK.

Some of the better ones I have come across are:

The Ancible
http://www.the-ancible.com

Battlespace
http://www.thebattlespace.com

Another paper magazine that covers both historical and sci-fi/fantasy is Wargames Recon:

White dwarf is a gaming mag?

They have battle reports made by people who ride the short bus.
They have painting articles that cover verdigris painting onto GOLD trim (you get verdigris on copper, brass or bronze, NOT GOLD. Gold doesn't oxidise.). Elementary science.

WI is a better mag.
WD is $12(AUD) advertising pamphlet.

Am I correct in assuming that WI just covers historical gaming, ignoring fantasy/sci-fi wargaming entirely?

Not entirely.
With the recent rise of Ambush Alley and Tomorrow's War, I wouldn't be surprised to see them get mentioned.

Although, WI is as much Battlefront's House Organ as Dragon was for TSR and WD for GW only with less specific ad copy and "it's new, it's from us, buy it now!"
Miniature Wargames is the other one I occasionally get (it's hard to get over here).
