First advice is to paint the YELLOW all over the area you want striped, why you ask? because it's easier to paint black over yellow than yellow over black!

For small areas e.g. iron warriors shoulder pad, a steady hand, and on very thin things like power cables etc, just use a brush and make long straight strokes over the area.

For large areas e.g. dozer blades, cut some masking tape (or other painters tape, the thin stuff car painters use to mask off artwork on cars is supposed to be the best)to a suitable thickness and mask off the yellow stripes, then paint the black stripes, remove the tape and tidy up the edges.

Do it like they do it in real life - with tape.

Prime black, then place really thin cut out pieces of tape over where you want to keep it black, then slather the heck out of the rest with yellow. Peel the tape off, and you have nice, clean, yellow and black lines.

I use Tamiya masking tape (yellow) then put down a base coat of Dheneb Stone, where my yellow will go, then follow up with a coat of Golden Yellow.

Primer/paint black.
Start with an intermediate color for the stripes...I find Vomit Brown works pretty well.
Once dry, 2 coats of Sunshine Yellow over the inermediate.
Black wash to 'dirty' it up.
to ease the contrast I then edge between the black and yellow with a neutral color like Folk Arts Slate Grey.

I am not a fan of the white in between the yellow and black, though it is a fabulously painted model. I think the start contrast between the yellow and black looks really awesome, and the white lines breaks it up too much.

Also, modelling supply stores (not GW) sell special thin tape (<1/8" wide) for painting. I have a roll (back when I did model cars) and it works really well for thin stripes. It is expensive, but much easier than trying to cut out straight pieces of tape.

i take a piece of thick paper like an index card and cut it to the thickness of the desired black line- then I place it in position on top of the previously painted yellow and then trace both sides with a very sharp pencil. Move paper over to the opposite side of the pencil mark and trace again- repeat until finished- then paint between the lines with chaos black - shift over one stripe and repeat until finished. Masking tape works great for larger areas- but paper spacer and pencil works just fine on small areas - or very thin lines. Good painting!

When I paint hazards, I just freehand it. I typically prime black, so in nearly all cases I find it looks better to paint 2 layers of white over black, then yellow, then oldschool yellow wash. Then go back and highlight the black.
