Has anyone else read it yet? For those of you who don't know, it is a webcomic that is normally devoted to video games, but the creaters have been delving into War Machine lately. Today's strip is the latest in a series of table top gaming related comics they have done, and it gave me a bit of a chuckle; for the record, I'm more of the Bewildered type (Warning: Possibly NSFW due to foul language):

Raaa. Enjoying these, especially the three-parter where they go into a games shop.

Looking forward to the inevitable deep immersion style strips where Gabe and Tycho are drawn interacting with the characters in the Iron Kingdoms.

Yeah, I've been faithfully following for a few years now and am anxiously awaiting the current themes to draw interest from my non-wargaming friend who introduced me to the strip. When they started playing 4E, it got him to run a game, so maybe Gabe and Tycho will turn him to the dark side.

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

I'm looking forward to their expo in 3 weeks time in Boston-wondering if I'll see any other dakka people there!

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Penny Arcade has really started to dive into this "war-gaming" thing.

I hope they break into 40k at some point. But, the jokes carry over from Warmachine fairly well.

You had to have followed the strip and Blog posts for a while before this strip. Long story short, Gabe resisted getting into non-video based gaming(especially role-playing) for the longest time until he picked up the WoW card game. The game was his "gateway drug", so to speak, from which he then got into D&D and eventually Warmahordes. Before that point, Tycho tried for the longest time to get him to try it, and this was their way of showing that he succeeded.

Was it?

I seem to recall the transition being pokemon, then tactics games, then dnd, but maybe I'm wrong.

I know they did that short story-arch where Gabe visits Tycho running a D&D game and complains about it, etc...

Personally I think everything Penny Arcade does is awesome. I know some people were complaining that they felt as if Penny Arcade was trying to shill D&D 4e whenever Gabe posted those blog posts about his elaborate games. Maybe they are, but to be honest, I really don't care. Even if they do the same thing with Warmahordes.

They both do amazing and funny things, and they're amicable people. If they're endorsing a product that they aren't afraid to joke on, then that's awesome and I encourage that kind of realness. And those D&D games Gabe runs look like the most amazing adventures ever.

Actually they've already dabbled in 40K. Tycho had a Necron he's since abandoned.

Gabe is a long term video gamer who hates role-playing and tabletop games. Tycho is a role-player and tabletop gamer who also plays video games. He often tries to get Gabe to play RPGs. Gabe always mocks him.

It is great, not to mention as a commercial for miniatures gaming in general and WM spesifically. A few months ago, Gabe really showed that inside the heart of every video game nerd is a RPG/Tabletop gamer. He ran a story-driven Warmachine game with some custom models involved and launched the Iron Kingdoms RPG adventure Witchfire Trilogy from the outcome. Good idea, really - the intro to the original Witchfire trilogy is a bit weak. I think he is ours, gentlemen. He really is...

Tycho played 40k back in the day, I think. I remember an old blogpost about selling his Necrons.

Interesting strip to say the least. There are some of them that I really liked and others that, while I understand them to be tongue-in-cheek,are visual expressions about what irks me about gamers. Definitely something to check into every once in awile. Thanks for the link Ruckdog.
