Rofl. Well, unfortunately sir the tau codex's troop choices are god-awful. In fact, the best units in the codex are the battlesuits. And since you said you have a lot of troops already, I assume you mean fire warriors, which are the worst troop choice we have access to. But, here's my take on 1000 points of tau:

998/1000

--HQ--

1 Shas'el 73
-TL Missile Pod
-Target Lock

1 Shas'el 73
-TL Missile Pod
-Target Lock

--Elites--

2 Crisis Suits 106
-TL Missile Pod x2
-Targeting Array x2

2 Crisis Suits 106
-TL Missile Pod x2
-Targeting Array x2

2 Crisis Suits 106
-TL Missile Pod x2
-Targeting Array x2

--Troops--

6 Fire Warriors 60
-Pulse Carbines

10 Kroot Carnivores 70

10 Kroot Carnivores 70

--Fast Attack--

7 Pathfinders 94
-Markerlights
1 Devilfish 85
-Disruption Pod

--Heavy Support--

1 Hammerhead 165
-Railgun
-Disruption Pod
-Multi-tracker
-Burst Cannons

You can make the pathfinders out of fire warriors with carbines and with some plasticard. You can find the modeling guide here: http://www.advancedtautactica.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=5803

Hope this helps.

Troop heavy lists can be done... kind of. This is what I would run if you REALLY wanted a load of fire warriors:

Commander
-TL Missile Pod/Flamer
72 Pts.

Crisis Battlesuits (3)
-TL Missile Pod/Flamer
141 Pts.

Crisis Battlesuits (3)
-TL Missile Pod/Flamer
141 Pts.

Fire Warriors (8)
80 Pts.

Fire Warriors (8)
80 Pts.

Fire Warriors (8)
80 Pts.

Fire Warriors (8)
80 Pts.

Fire Warriors (8)
80 Pts.

Broadside (A.S.S.)
80 Pts.

Broadside (A.S.S.)
80 Pts.

Broadside (A.S.S.)
80 Pts.

Write down what you bought & we'll see what can be done.

Also, I don't recommend doing just un-upgraded troop units as TheBringer has shown. Two casualties in each unit of 8 FWs will cause a morale check. It isn't hard to kill two FWs and they don't have great Leadership. So I upgrade to one to an 'Ui and Bond if you were to 'gun line' like TB has suggested. It would give them some staying power.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I have 36 fire warriors and about 28 kroot 2 battlesuits, 2 devilfish, sniper team, and a stealth team. so pretty skimpy on everything.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
A gun line is kindof the way i wanted to go. i know tau is not competitive buti play mostly for fun.

Holy crap! That is a load of kroot and fire warriors combined.

I wanted to play gunline when I was first starting Tau... it pretty much ended in me going mech Tau.

Using that stuff:

Crisis Battlesuit Commander
-Fusion Blaster/TL Missile Pod/HWMT
85 Pts.

Crisis Suit Team Leader
-Fusion Blaster/TL Missile Pod/HWMT
65 Pts.

Crisis Suit Team Leader
-Fusion Blaster/TL Missile Pod/HWMT
65 Pts.

4 Units of 8/9/9/9 fire warriors
350 Pts.

Kroot (14)
98 Pts.

Kroot (14)
98 Pts.

2 Warfish (SMS/TA/MT/DP)
240 Pts.

1001 Points

You have a serious lack of models to deal with tanks, so I kitted out the crisis suits to do their worst.

Eek. That is SO many fire warriors. They are dead meat out in the open, so you need load them into Warfish (Devilfish APC /w SMS/TA/MT/DP)... maybe have a pinning squad or two? (carbines) that get out and unload on the enemy?

I would suggest some Broadsides or Fusion Blaster XV8's for anti-tank support... with Broadsides definitely being the better choice IMO (although I run both in my 'ard boys list).

With a whole mess of Warfish swinging around, a Hammerhead might not be a bad investment either.. it can provide anti-tank, or pie plate.. plus if they are shooting at it's A13, then they aren't shooting at your Devilfish.

Yeah, the thing is is that he only has access to crisis suits for AT firepower, with Fire warriors w/ EMP Grenades and Stealth suits w/ fusion blasters being the only alternative, neither of which is good.

Good luck!

If you end up fielding those Sunforge suits (Fusionblasters + TA or FL) make sure you deep strike them behind your enemies most important vehicles to ensure you get the most for your points.

Also, the next time some money/birthday/christmas comes up... Broadsides!!
