this is kind of a sister-thread to my 'Horus Heresy: Visions of the Dakkites' post. As many of you know from my rank, I'm now a big-time fan of the BA (after my brain finally decided to stick to a chapter, for once .) As I also mentioned in my thread, I've been reading up fluff from Horus Heresy: Collected Visions and I'm still fuzzy on it all. If anyone has any fluff on the BA during the Horus Heresy, battles, captains, units etc. and can explain to me how the legions work, such as how many companies are in them, how grand companies work etc. that would be appreciated.

You can not really tell how many companies one legion has, because each legion has between 20000 to 100000 marines. The BA were one of the only legions with a chapter master called Raldoron.

I think back then they had whole Companies of Sanguinary Gaurd.

The only thing I can tell you for sure is that you must avoid Death Company, since the Black Rage hasn't started then.

Although arguably you could justify a similar unit during Signus Prime, or any time after, where the Blood Angels lost their cool and 'crossed the line' so to speak.

Although of course they would have to be painted in standard colours (just using the rules for DC in game).

No, they were founded after the battle of Terra.

No. They were the personal bodyguard of Sanguinius throughout the Great Crusade. Sanguinius left one SG on Terra to maintain the order. The rest went with him on to the Vengeful Spirit to battle Horus. Those all died.

Necanor I know of those, they are also in Horus Heresy: Collected Visions and the Ultramarines had a chapter master called Marius Gage so I guess maybe all the legions probably would have at least 3, thanks for the stuff all, but if anyone has anymore info, not detailed anywhere by GW or FW or BL, rare info and such, please do tell, it would be appreciated.

Interesting, I did not no that.

Im working on a BA company from the siege of terra atm myself, looking for info too but other than the sources already mentioned there isnt much, hopefully there will be more when Fear to Tread comes out.

The only thing no one has mention so far is that there is a BA dreadnought in Soul Hunter(nightlords book) who was a captain during the siege of terra who died there. the book doesnt state what company he was from but his name was someone the sufferer. if anyone could supply the name would be good

Doubtful, since Matt Ward just created them. And they probably haven't re-written all of the background to include them yet

the Sanguinary Guard were Sanguinious's Bodyguard.


Askellon was their Captain(IIRC) and Sanguinious left him with the Blood Angels on Terra to maintain the order. the entirity of the Order except for Askellon was killed during the bording action against Horus.


it is theorized that the Sanguinor is actually Askellon, still living after 10k years. it's mostly the Sanguinary Guard who spread this theory.

Ugly Green Trog, for Raldoran to be a chapter master he had to be a captain, one of utmost skill but still, Raldoran is a captain first and foremost. What I know of chapter masters is that several companies were paired to make batalions and these batalions were combined to make chapters with which the greatest captain of the lot was chosen as the chapter master.

yes it was only an honorary rank but a rank all the same, he is referred to in the series solely as a chapter master of the blood angels never a captain to my knowledge, now in first heretic word bearers chapters are permanent groupings of like minded companies the chapters have names and a chapter master. It would make sense to assume that BA organisation is simillar. All this suggests that the rank was a more or less permanent and officially recognised one.

my main point about captains was that if a nightlord had killed raldoran he wouldve boasted about killing a chapter master rather than a captain.
