I wanted to move my request to another topic for itself rather than crowd the original poster of the thread we started talking about this in.

During that thread, user Mercer offered to write an IG list if I told him what I would like to see on the table. This is pretty much my thoughts on that.

If you want to try a list for me, here is the concept I am looking for. I don't have a codex in front of me and I don't know the names of the unit from memory:

1) Infantry mostly. Tanks would serve only for bigger guns. I hate transports for some reason. I think its because everyone uses them now so I want to play/win without them. I am guessing this is disadvantage #1.
2) No "hi-tech" weaponry. Things like machine guns, mortars, missile launchers, flamers, etc. are great. Lascannons, Plasma Cannons, Melta sucks. I am guess this is going to put me at disadvantage #2, but I am eventually going to model these guys for Chaos so I don't picture them having a hi-tech armory they keep at pristine condition. The louder, dirtier and grittier the gun, the more my guys are going to like it.
3) Psychers are cool. Ogryns are also. If the OGryns can carry even bigger guns that my other dudes that is a bonus.
4) Not a huge fan of types of lists where every FOC choice is exactly the same. Again this is going to be a chaos-based list and 6 groups of 100 guys all equipped the same doesn't seem to fit very well.
5) I want these guys to be able to be at least fair in CC. I know that is not the IG's strong point, but it would be nice.

Yeah, you're not going to get a list that has all of those things and is still good.

For reference, the next time I'm going to play 1850, the list is going to look something like...

CCS, master of ordnance, lascannon, regimental standard
Lord Commissar, power fist, carapace, camo cloak

Ogryn (6)
stormtroopers (5) with 2x melta
stormtroopers (5) with 2x melta

PCS, power fist, commissar with power fist
PIS, power weapon, commissar with power weapon, meltagun
PIS, power weapon, meltagun

Doesn't fit #'s 2 or 4 very well, but those are exactly the things that you want which will drive you to play crappy lists.

I'm fully expecting this list to not be the best. I haven't won a game of 40K yet so why start now, right?

Basically, I am hoping that the number of bodies will make up for the less AP that my weapons will have. I guess basically I am going to a mobile gunline made of mostly infantry. I really wish I brought my codex with me this morning...

If you don't care about winning, and you are just playing for fun, why not make your own list to fit your specifications?

I do WANT to win, I just don't expect it. I don't have any issues making a list but mercer offered so I was wondering what came out of it.

Just a quick question on this -- would you "blob" all four platoon squads together, or would you "blob" #1 and #2 together, and #3 and #4 in a seperate "blob"?

It should be noted that I am not a guard player, and only ever fight mech guard so I'm not well versed on how blob squads work. but I tried

I tried to go no transports, give heavy and light vehicle popping capability with the Medusa's and the Hydra's/scouts, few laser weapons, Psykers, Ogryns, I threw in heavy weapons and the demo charges just for more big booms and violence. Does it mean your Criteria? For the most part. competitive? no idea!

If I screwed something up with my lack of know-how about the guard let me know.

Usually I run it as 2 blobs, except for when kill points games roll around.

My point was simply that it's going to be difficult to help with a list if we don't know how you want the list to play out. If all you wanted was certain units in your list, then take those units in a list. If you have a higher purpose in mind, it would be helpful to know what that is.

I'll use my codex tonight and make a list, trying to be clearer about what I am aiming for. The army should amount to a very fluff-based list. I have a Daemon army already and a random assortment of Space marines that can be converted into Chaos Space Marines and I thought it would be nice to field a huge Apocalypse army of CSM, Daemons and Chaos IG. I still want to be able to field just the IG portion as a 40K army so that is why I was looking for a list.
