Hey guys, i'm a involved in a Deathwatch campaign and figured i'd start a thread to showcase some of the minis people paint up for the RPG. I'll start off with two of my own.

The first is my Space Wolf NPC tactical marine armed with a heavy bolter (he's a bit eccentric!). He's a solitary hunter of the lone wolf/wolf scout variety (very low fellowship) and is equiped (both wargear and skills) to cover any eventually he may encounter without having to rely on others. For games where i'm playing as a character (i'm a co-gm), I've got my more charistmatic dark angel tactical marine with a jump pack (also eccentric with his wargear!). He's relatively young and completely ignorant of the history of the fallen, confident in his chapter's purity and quite friendly as he is unburdened by the secret of the fallen. For the ultimate in non-subtle irony, both the sullen space wolf and outgoing dark angel will have the duel deed when we incorporate Rites of Battle into the campaign in a few weeks. Both character don't technically have all the wargear currently modelled but they will when they advance to the respected level of renown.

Feel free to add your own painted pics of deathwatch character figs and a quick blurb about the characters.

Despite my insane jealousy at anyone that has a Deathwatch campaign when I know no one that likes RPGs, I declare these character models AWESOME!

Brother Zorahel before Deathwatch service, he's an assault Blood Angel.

He's an effective close combat fighter who saved Brother Lucius from sure death when on planet Miniscus they've conducted the human resistance against Tau invaders. A Tau Commander engaged them both and nearly killed Lucius, but it was the Xeno's last action before being killed by Zorahel rightneous fury!

Brother Lucius is an expert Bolter weilder. His marksmanship is revered by many Battlebrothers and his actions as an inspiring leader among the Imperial Guards sure led with Zorahel a counterattack against the Tau invasion.

I know that the painting is not so good, both for the picture and my abilities. I gave these miniatures as a present to my players when we started the campaign, picturing their charachters before Deathwatch service. It's great to see Lucius being played in regular games ^_^

I thought you didn't use miniatures for Deathwatch. Or are they optional?

I personally don't use the miniatures for game purposes. It's just for "Hey , you look like this!"

I think I'll use the miniatures for when my players will get onboard a Space Hulk. Since I have the new version of the game and the floor tiles are excellent, they could make a perfect terrain where to move the miniatures.

Fafnir - As with most RPG's its up to you how you play it, but having representations of combatants on a map/table just makes more sense to me.

they are completely optional and the gameplay won't suffer if you don't use them. deathwatch (and the other 40k FFG RPGs) is an old-school 1980's style RPG that doesn't require the minis; more modern style RPGs turn the combat into a skirmish scale minis game (like d&d). we use minis because we're all 40k players and all but one of us has a marine army so bits for customization aren't a problem. also, it helps greatly to give the players a general idea of the battlefield and how the squad and enemies relate to it. for instance, we left off last week (and will pick up again tonight) with the squad in a nid hive ship at the exit of a large tyrannid hatchery. the hatchery had hundreds of small birthing pods as well as two larger embryos in the center of its 200m diameter cavern and smaller markers for the entrance and exit. I used a relatively flat hill piece of terrain to illustrate the room and put two of my nid drop pods in the center and a smattering of spore mines across the room for the other smaller ones. as they made their move silent checks to get across without waking the inhabitants, i had them move their minis *roughly* a 1/4 across the room. if there's no combat then the minis just add complexity where none is needed or wanted; in combat, they help to make both PC and NPC actions a bit clearer. In the first game, i used my old D&D grid map but stopped doing that when the players were taking the grid distance too literally and counting the squares as meters like in a minis game for range; because the rules don't have the tightness that a minis game does, they fall apart when you take the distances too literally.

nice. he's definitely kitted out like a deathwatch marine on mission with all that gear! you should take a look at the kill-marine specialty in rites of battle as that matches his load out pretty well (basically a marine who is assigned to missions by himself so brings alot of stuff/skills with him).

awesome! one thing i'd recommend (and this goes with the fluff too) is that you paint their left shoulder pad or even the arm silver with some gold highlight/detail. when they're returned from deathwatch, they're supposed to keep the silver shoulder pad (i'm honestly not sure about the arm though) on as a sign of their honorable service. even if you don't use the official pad (i didn't with my dark angel above since he's metal and couldn't replace them), adding the silver one looks cool!

thanks! the dark angel one is an old rogue trader 1st edition metal jump pack i had lying around (i figured he'd be too proud to use a more standard modern one seeing as how i might be playing him as a consecrator with a mastercrapted pack also). the space wolf pack is just my attempt at being cheap, lol. i didn't have any spare devastator HB parts left so i kit bashes some ravenwing bits as well as the chaos marine HB together to make something for the SW. i'm not too happy with how the middle of the ammo feed turned out but it cost me nothing but bits i wasn't using so not too shabby!

A bit of thread necro here but it's ok as I'm the OP and I've got some more DW characters to add! My campaign has pretty much fizzled out but I have to say that I've enjoyed making some easy truescale guys for both pregen PC's and NPCs. We switched from regular scale to truescale due to the models simply not looking impressive on the table next to eldar/heretics/other scum despite wading through them statwise like a shark through water. My initial batch was a bunch of Space Wolf Wolfguard seconded to an Inquisitor for the duration of a campaign (bit of a story there...).

I wasn't too happy with the excess of blue so I stripped them and redid them partly in Deathwatch colors. So far though, I've only gotten around to redoing half of them: the heavy bolter devastator, the power ax assault marine, and the combi-everything tactical marine.

More recently, I acquired both the Daemonhunter RPG book as well as a few GK plastic model bits so I decided to do them up as well in truescale for the RPG (for one-off games where the group was supposed to play Ordo Malleus instead of Ordo Xenos). Here I've got two standard GK strike squad marines with storm bolters and force halberds along with their Justicar who has relics from the Horus Heresy era, including a Custodes spear and a storm shield.

If anyone has any other Deathwatch RPG character minis, feel free to post them too!

I like the Captain Odin model. Is that based off of the chapter master model? If so, that must have been a PITA to remove the head from the metal model.

I think it was, but I need to check with the model's owner. He LOVES doing conversions.

It is, but it's not as bad as you think - the head's a separate bit. Never thought about using ogre clubs for thunder hammers before, that's a pretty great idea.
