Utilizing Careful Highlighting
Finland... the country next to Sweden? No! That's Norway! Finland is to the east! No! That's Russia!

You paint the spot you want to be golden with mithril silver... Yes! Mithril Silver! Then you apply 4 thick coats of gryphonne sepia (remember to let it dry after every coat).
Then you can Highlight it with dwarf bronze or shining gold.
If you don't want to highlight, then before the washes you paint forst woth boltgun metal, then chainmail and then with mithril silver. Automatically Appended Next Post: Of course then there is the easy way... Tin bitz, Brazen brass (1:1 Dwarf bronze and Tin bitz) Dwarf bronze, Shining gold, Burnished gold

That looks Bronze..
If i'm not doing NMM i prefer 1:1 mix of scorched brown and shining gold, thin layers of shining gold, paint the areas the light is going to hit with burnished gold, highlight of burnished and mithril silver, highlight of mithril.

It is bronze. Gold is a yellow metal.

How is the second method you described the easy way? It looks a little more tricky compared to the layers of sepia. If your showing people how to paint a good gold, why show a bronze necron lord? Hard to believe this when you don't have a good example :/

My method for gold is just Mithril silver washed with gryphonne sepia a couple of times, then highlighted with shining gold. Works for me.

You might pull off a decent gold by using a yellow ink (the old GW one is REALLY bright) over mithril silver and then a few wases of gryphonne sepia.

I haven't used washes, just used white primer, then dwarf bronze and two thin coats of shining gold once the bronze is dry.
I've never liked the consistency of shining gold - I may just have a bad batch but mine is like water with glitter floating in it.

4 coats of gryphonne sepia over mithril does give a goldish colour dispite the OP's picture.

I used only two washes of Gryphonne Sepia over Mithirl Silver for my Daemonette armour - the gold effect is qute nice but I wouldn't replace metallic paint with it.

I personally don't think you can go wrong with snakebite leather as a base for shining gold the badab black wash!

I use a base of snakebite leather, then use burnished gold to get it looking actually gold. Works pretty well.

The OP's looks quite bronze, or even, the way it's applied to the Necron, like rust.
I'm not a very good painter, but I did something like what 40K Ninja did when I was painting my Space Marines a couple months ago, and it worked well. I don't have them with me, or any pictures of them, which is unfortunate. I don't think, in terms of detail, they're very good, but I think I got the actual gold color nearly perfectly.
I undercoated the minis Chaos Black.
I basecoated them with Iyanden Darksun.
I then painted them with... I don't remember, the darker of Vallejo Burnished or Glorious (?) Gold
Wash with Gryphonne Sepia
Drybrush the other gold.
Wash with Badab Black
Profit.

RE: OP's method.
I'm going to give it a try. I hadn't thought of using a silver type color as a base.
I used to use P3 Brass Balls for stuff that I'd want to be gold. I'd do one layer then wash with brown or turquoise ink and then go over the raised areas with the Brass Balls again.

40k Ninja's approach is pretty close to mine. My quickie technique was always Shining Gold with a Chestnut Ink wash. Which gets a lovely rich shade and is dead easy.
