Has anyone used one of these FW nasties?

I am thinking about getting one but am debating how good it will be. Looking at the rules it looks to be awesome on the charge (2+ attacks and MC as well).

But am i right in thinking that it is still quite slow? The rules make it sound quick and deadly but surely it is no quicker than a Defiler? Is it worth giving up a precious HS slot to field one of these?

In case anyone doesn't know what it is, here is a couple of pics and a
link to the rules:

Well, looking at it, it can use Fleet, it can use Move Through Cover, it has T7 5W and a 3+ Save.

Right there it's a solid machine for only 195pts. That's the ability to move (including the charge) up to 18". That's some pretty solid moving power, especially coming in with 6 S6 attacks from a monsterous creature -- so it doesn't allow armour saves! WS4 may only be ME, and for a CC dedicated unit such as this, it may not be very high, but it's still a 4+ to hit on many units and a 3+ against most light or horde infantry.

For 200 points I think it's a solid buy, especially if you're fighting infantry. Depending on your own flavour and what you're fighting I'd say it'd be a good swap out for Heavy Destroyers or a Tomb Spyder.

Yep, the fact it has fleet is VERY nice. I mean, for an army with next to no melee ability.

No, you are not. It is a fleet t7 monstrocity with extra movement rules.
Unless you mean "It cannot be pulled through the monolith for extra craziness" instead of "slow".

What's the general thought on using Forge World beasties in games? Are they generally disallowed in tournaments, or are they auto-legal (or close enough)?

Forgeworld rules are generally not allowed in tournaments, although there are rare exceptions.

Be glad; or there would be Cestus Rams flying around in everyone's armies supported by Achilles Land Raiders.

I for sure, am thankful for this.

I wouldn't doubt in the next Necron codex though, that this unit becomes a standard choice in the heavy support section. It's a really neat model in my opinion as well. I'd see if you could get some friendly games with it, and enjoy it there for now.

The Tomb Stalker is more or less exactly what the Necrons need; it is a very killy and fast Close Combat beast.

Of course Mephiston can still put the whipsmack on it...

I dont know where everybody thinks that necrons are not a CC army. Destroyers lords with scythe and wraight wings are nasty. Scarabs to can eat tanks. It is just that all the good CC is in fast attack.

Unless that tank moved 1 inch, in which case you get 3 glancing rolls and are bunched up for templates. Necron Lords are handicapped by their low WS, A, and I.

sure warscythe lord on destoyer body is nice, also makes him a huge target. wraiths are too expensive for their worth, even with 3++ they arent power weapons and they are T4 1W 2A/3 on the charge with a max squad size of 3 so for 9 its 369 points, nine necrons for 369 is not very viable when they will not kill more than maybe 1 or 2 squads before getting shredded by something like mephiston or even a hydra battery . scarabs are the truly viable thing because even if it moves and you have enough scarabs statistics say at least 1 glance which could in theory render it combat incapable, (for ex: hitting a punisher and getting cant shoot cant move makes IG players miserable as hell).

Just to check (i'm at work and obviously don't have my rulebook with me) MCs count as having the Relentless USR, right?

So the Stalker can move, RF both is gauss Flayers and still charge?

i need to check my rulebook and see what the Stalkers collection of USRs all actually do (i know what Fleet is but the rest are a bit hazy)

Yeah it can. When I first saw that, I thought it was pretty epic too (4 shots, although only S4, but STILL charge into CC after that, getting +2 attacks per one of its special rules)

The reasoni was asking if it was too slow in my OP was that, from the pictures, it looks like a big model, surely attracting a lot of incoming fire.

Some sort of invul. save would have been nice. but i suppose T7 makes up for it. Looks like i need to start savign my pennies.

Here's hoping it ends up in the official codex when it finally arrives.

Space Marines aren't the poster boys, I like non biker, non special character vanilla, and they suck. I can only win with a cheese list (a space marine army with hardly any marines in it?!)

SW and BA are the posterboys! And if anyone (especially wolves!) Tells you otherwise they are talking gak.

Seriously, how can 5 ML that can split fire be cheaper than 4? This is madness!

We are arming Syrian rebels who support ISIS, who is fighting Iran, who is fighting Iraq who we also support against ISIS, while fighting Kurds who we support while they are fighting Syrian rebels.

These things are deadly. Theres a fellow at my local club who uses two monoliths & this as his Heavy Support.

The only thing it's missing really is an invulnerable save, but the t7 is a massive advantage.

I play horde orks & it chews through units of boyz.
