About 10 years ago a good friend of mine (that's Mexican) took me to a little
mom and pop Mexican restaurant. he convinced me to let him order for us. like
an idiot, i let him. he said if i didn't like it, it was on him. so, about half way through
my Beef tongue burrito, i find out what it was. and i have to admit it was like tender,
melt in your mouth roast beef. that said, it was also my last "lingua" burrito.

When stationed in Korea I tried kagogi at the suggestion of a ROK Army Cpt., I enjoyed it a good deal... it was sweet and gamey, like a "teriyaki lamb" flavor. After my first bite, he advised me it was Dog. I finished it, but it was the last time I ate anything I didn't recognize in any of the SoKo eateries.

What's wrong with tongue? It's just muscle, the same as any other piece of meat.

If that really is the worst thing you've eaten there are some real surprises waiting for you in the culinary world.

It just happens to be the worst to me. not saying it's the most horrid thing ever.
and i don't like too many surprises, culinary or otherwise. i tend to find out what's in what i'm eating now.
when i was around 5 - 6, my mother's friend "harvested" and prepared "calf fries". don't remember how
they tasted. when i found out what the fries where i about puked on the damn table.

For me, worst thing has been Navy cooking. the cooks on my first ship didnt care if there was fuzz on anything that shouldnt have it, cooked rotten potatoes as if they were still fresh, and had a roach infestation.

Ginger girls ~shudder~

Food wise I've eaten dog. Wasn't too bad at all but we knew what we were eating and was ready for it. Tasted quite good, if not chewy.

Went to France to visit a friend and ate Ortolan Bunting. It's a small yellow bird the size of a Sparrow or Finch.

It is illegal to sell them but not to eat them. They are roasted whole, guts and all, no feet or head though. Traditionally uyou're supposed to eat with a towel over your head. No idea why. The bones are also eaten.

Sounds disgusting? Well the thought of it is but actually they tasted pretty good! A bit like liver.

If I am not in my room, is it still my room?

Nothing; I find out what my food is a while beforehand; when eating out I order my own food and never go anywhere where I can't read the menu or I cook my own stuff.

I'm very suspicious of everyone apart from myself.

I'm fairly adventurous when it comes to trying new foods,so I don't really need to be tricked into eating much..if you set a plate before me and tell me it's eel or snake..I'll dig right in.

However,as far as foods that someone has said "Hey try this." and I did before asking "Well...what is it exactly?"
The only two that immediately come to mind are fried squirrel brains (which I thought were oysters at the time) and Hogs Head cheese..which gaged me.

When I first started working at Tippins, I was tricked, as all new employees are, into trying toast with their special Lingonberry spread. It's like fruitcake mixed with battery acid and burned plastic. And the suffering lingers on and on. Just to tell you how potent this horrible stuff is, the only way to get the taste out of your mouth is to chug a whole bottle of NyQuil!.

It wasn't bad in the sense that it was disgusting, but one time while visiting the grandfather over in Latvia, there was this dish of what looked to me like nuts sitting on the table. Popped one into my mouth and turns out it was sausage. Sausage balls.

I had a couple afterward, and they weren't bad, but expecting to taste a nut and it turning out to be sausage was rather. . . unpleasant.

Psychological impact more than anything.

See half of my family is Irish and the other half is Basque, well my Basque family members eat some pretty crazy things I don't have a problem eating it I'll try anything once (There is a cheese that's made from a substance produced by a caterpiller, I'm not sure what the substance was but when I found out it wasen't crap I was happy ).

So things that people think are "disgusting" don't really bother me so if they tricked me into eating it I'd be fine. As long as it isn't human or one of my pets
