Hello All,

So hopefully some of you will recognise me and my minis from my BA Blog (follow link in sig to see) and I'm hoping that this blog will also be as successful as I feel that one is!

Basically I've wanted to start an Imperial Guard force for some time now but didn't want to use the standard models. I've toyed with a few different designs but I've settled on this;

I would like your advise on a few things;

1st, What to use him as? Std guardsman or an elite?

2nd, How to base him? I'm thinking city scape but don't really want to just sand the base and paint it grey!

3rd, What to call them? (The whole Army as in Cadians, Catachans, Death Korps etc..) Would like fluff to go with this as well!

I think that's it for now, I kept the paint scheme simple on purpose cause if it takes off and I end up doing tons of men I don't want it to take forever to finish a squad. Although any ideas you have to make him look a little better with a little effort please tell.

So far I only have enough for about 20 men, a hellhammer, a Valk and I also have a baneblade that I painted a while ago which I'm happy to mod to fit in with these guys.

This is the Baneblade;

Thanks for Looking and I look forward to your feedback/ideas!

Guardsman looks great. I would tend to use him as a veteran or stormtrooper, if only because you need parts from 3 different models and additional PI heads to make them work If you use him for a standard trooper you will go clinically insane

The dust weathering on the baneblade is pretty cool as well, but I think the green is a bit flat. Might just be the picture though.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

I'd also use him as some sort of veteran.

I'd suggest looking into Resin Bases. Micro Art Studio and Back 2 Base-ix both have a great range.

Good eye on the amount of parts used! I was going to use the fire warrior legs as well as the torsos but couldn't mod the feet well enough to look like boots, then tried cutting the scout boots off and also tried some cadian boots but they looked too big.

Probably go with stormtrooper as long as people are happy with the lasgun counting as a hot-shot. Maybe a couple of wires to the back pack would help

Yeah the baneblade is a little flat, I painted it a while ago and think I lost interest half way through, it looks better in person but if I do use it I will go back and re-do!

Cheers!

You could go for 'Harakoni Warhawks' they are frequently mentioned but little used by guard players. In the 4th edition codex they are described as drop troopers but this was a doctrine so didnt limit your choices like the Elysian List would. Basically a mech vet list with a bunch of vendettas would fit it nicely. EDIT: Just looked them up, their official fluff is quite good and non-specific.

Love the work your'e doing!

I think they possibly use some sort of Squad Designation on the shoulders.

I actually see the bases as more of a urban theme, like the Armorcast ones:

I'm sorry if I come off as hyper critical, I just think these are really awesome, and with a few little details, could be really cool.

He looks great, though I'd agree with Flinty that he's too complex/expensive to be a bulk standard trooper. The minor mod to the lasgun makes quite a nice looking automatic shotgun, so combine this with the elite forces looking head... I'd consider using this for your veteran squads instead.

A thinned wash of Gryphonne Sepia/Black (with gloss varnish and a bit of water) over the tank and troopers would help break up the flat green/brown places a bit without too much work.
