The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all

Strike Force + Thunderhawk Insertion = horrible failure? Did they really think that deep striking up to 12 tanks with the goal of landing them 6" apart, when they can scatter up to 12", was a good idea?

Why the heck would you Deep Strike Fast Land Raiders, anyway (assuming your group bans the "all Deep Strikers are ****ed" strategem, otherwise why would you Deep Strike anything?)

Wow, the formatting on the GW site is just horrible. You'd think they'd have an icon or something for new datasheets, but nope... you get "NEW" in big capital letters in a shade of grey that's barely visible.

Okay, aside from the silliness of trying to DS up to 12 vehicles within 6" of each other, from a fluff perspective how does a Chapter (which officially has 3 Thunderhawk Transports in the entire Chapter) drop 12 vehicles at once?
<shrug> Not that anyone would use DS when every LR in that force becomes Fast. But I thought the Dex said the "one problem" was that the BA couldn't figure out how to Fastify the LR, hence the silly DS rule in the first place.
Guess that Tycho was one smart cookie!

He just needed the proper motivation. Namely, the opportunity to not be dropped from a Thunderhawk in a 70 ton ceramite coffin.

I'm not refuting the logic or sillyness of the formation, but I will point out that some people play APOC. on BIG battlefields made up of multiple large tables connected in various ways such that both armies aren't just lined up in straight lines across from each other and ready to assault each other turn one.
Thus it could be a nice strategic move to deepstrike onto an area of the battlefield that you can't easily/quickly drive 18" to get at on turn one.
Call me crazy...

Your assuming the only goal is to get a collection of squads to a given point. If that is the case then yes drop pods are the optimal choice.
I don't think the idea here is to use Land Raiders simply as drop pods though.
The idea is that you want to insert a mechanized (thus mobile) element onto the battlefield and then be able to undertake mechanized actions from that location.
Not the same thing really...

Ok, so I have a question with the shooty LRC+Baal Preds (and the burn-y one in WD as well). It says "3 tanks firing" and that it has to be within the LoS of the LR, but what if the LR isnt one on the ones firing? You can have as many Preds as you want. (And i realize the better spot for this might be YMDC, but when does N&R not degrade into something else)

Fixered. ; )
The Deathstorm Strike Force looks like it has potential, depending on the kinds of Apoc games your group plays.
Question on the Lucifer, though... If you take Preds in the force, but DS the Raiders, how do you come on within 6" of another unit with the Preds, if no Raider happened to scatter that close to the edge & the Raiders arrive the turn before the Preds? What happens in that case?

Yeah...because deep striking 6 Land Raiders + other stuff within 6" isn't going to end horribly for the blood angels player.
But watch out once they land. You'll have to face the might of 6 FULL Tactical Squads! Oh no!!!

Dear god in Apoc, this is getting used so hard, tactical squads with a sanguinary priest are the most annoying things to try and push off an objective, let alone when they have a land raider supporting them that can move 6 inches and still unload it's full payload.
Seems like alot of power in this could also easily come from Deepstriking a couple baal preds indo the mix as well.

Not sure what you're thinking fluff-wise with the Thunderhawks.....but you do know that they are transports as well as gunships right?
Considering a standard marine chapter of roughly 10 Battle Companies plus fleet assets, which usually numbers 3 Battle Barges and a number of Strike Cruisers plus escort craft
will have a considerably large Thunderhawk contingent.
In Battle Fleet Gothic, the Thunderhawks are used as assault craft and interceptors to oncomming fighters/bombers and ordnance (torpedoes), so a typical astartes chapter
will have plenty of Thunderhawks in their arsenals (after all it only holds like 30 marines and a dread) of either variant (transport or standard).
So, yeah 3 Thunderhawks can roughly transport a company; 30 should do the entire chapter....if so needed.... lol!
