Hi All,
after quite a few month I proudly present to you my finished deathskullz Stompa.

I didn't do any real conversions, I found the kit itself offered quite enough dakka already. Only magnetized the head, put some bits in other places than they were "supposed" to be and added the poor captured and beaten guardsman.
This was a very nice model to work on. I went for a somewhat darker blue than is generally used for orks I think, but I really wanted it to look mean and dirty.

Let me know what you think en hope you enjoy!
C&C much appreciated.

Very nice. I like the rust-details and weathering. You have made it look clean, yet orcish.

Thanks for all the replies, I'm glad you like it. This was my second big project after a fortress of redemption (you can actually see a bit of it in the background. I might post pics of that one as well.)

Very nice work on the Stompa. I dig the darker blue and the deeper rust.

Love the hanging guardsman, also love the gun, looks like the orks found a deathstrike missile and hooked it up to the stompa.

I'm a huge fan of Stompas, and this is one of the better ones I've seen. Great work with the weathering, rust, the simple little conversions, and the otherwise uniform color. I'm impressed!

Very nice. I think that the darker blue worked very well with the extent of coverage you had planned. A lighter blue would have either needed to cover less of the model, or it would have looked too bright and toylike. However, the dark blue is great for extensive coverage like this. It also makes the brighter bits stand out well, and look really orky. Your attention to detail with weathering and rust really seals the deal. Very nice, and very distinctive!

What can I say...
I'm really glad with all these great comments.
I know it's "just internet", but it feels quite good to get so much positive feedback. Especially since this project kept me occupied for several months. (I know I am a super slow painter )

(and on a side note, the guardsman will probably visit "the dentist" once they return to base, who knows, those teeth might grow in the meantime.... )

Cheers!

Glad you like it. The grots are included in the plastic stompa kit.

Not as much as you'd think, it obviously took quite a bit of blue and wash, I think all colors included maybe 1.5 - 2 pots of paint.

I'm afraid I already have the next 4 or so projects figured out in my head (and started some)

Since everyone seems to dig the rust, here's what I did:
- vallejo pigments: brown iron oxide, solved in some rubbing alcohol (70%), applied this to places were rust would start to form.
- vallejo pigments: burnt sienna, solved in some rubbing alcohol (70%), applied sparingly on top of the brown iron oxide patches and raised areas.
That was basically it, except for the face plate on the belly, I used dark red ochre pigment, also by Vallejo for the rust highlight, to make it stand out just a little bit better (since that pigment is slightly more orange than the sienna).

Also THE 2 reasons to do weathering with pigments instead of paint for me:
- If you apply to much, you can just wipe it off after the alcohol evaporates.
- It gives a far better 3d effect than weathering with paints. (At least for rust, faded colors and such, now that's another thing ofc)
