My cousin just gave me his 40k collection! And the best part... it was free!

I was over his apartment the other week helping him and his wife pack (they had just bought a house) and he has me go check out a few boxes for him. I open them up to find his whole collection
of Tau and Orks armies which he then says I can have if I want. Now, I knew he hasn't touched them in years, but I told him I couldn't just take them; I'd have to pay. He told me he'd have none of that and heard I was just getting into the hobby, so all he asks is that I have as much fun with them as he did and then he passed the torch.

I just finished stripping some of the Tau with super clean, but I'm waiting until I can get the current codexes for each until I proceed with reassembly. I'm interested in the Tau background, so I was thinking about using them, but I think the Orks are pretty damn interesting too, so.... I have more models than I know what to do with!

Sorry about all the pics. I am still pretty excited. There were also some BFG models and counters, a copy of Inquisitor (2001), and Rogue Trader (1990 ed.) in the box if anyone knows what I should do with them let me know.

Both forces look like they're a good start. The Orks in particular since you got 2 Dreads and Ghazghkull. The Tau also has a good selection, but I'd say concentrate on the Orks for now.

Well done sir.

He is right, relax and have fun and most importantly take your time.

There are a lot of differances between both armies and before choosing you should probably get down to you LGS and talk to some people and read some codeci before deciding. You look to have a good head start with both. Awefully nice of him, hope you got him something for his birthday.

As far as the RT...seal it and hold onto it or sell it on Ebay.. :(

First thing to do to make sure you get off to a good start is to trade those Tau out for an army worth a damn.

*EDIT* By which I mean trade them out for Ork Lootas, more Lootas, a battlewagon or three, some burna boyz, nobs....

That happened with my neighbour a few months back.
I made almost £500 by selling what I didn't want, and saved a further £200 by keeping some old SM stuff.

So, selling is good. =P

Great going, though ^w^

Hey man, enjoy those models! It'll be fun having a very shooty army and very close-combaty army; you'll get to try very different things out easily.

Play as much as you can!

My girlfriend hates me, too. Well, mostly my cousin. She likes to paint (ceramics) while I'm painting my guys, so I'm trying to talk her into painting some of the Tau.

It seems like everyone is pushing for Orks here. I having been leaning toward them, so I think I might be forming my own Waaagh pretty soon! The only reason I started on stripping the Tau was the paint job. Don't get me wrong, I love my cousin, but He decided that they would look good in white and neon green (?) and I felt bad for the them, so I figured they'd need a fresh start. The Orks are what I really want to get into fixing up. It's gonna be a process; they're not in the best condition, but they did come with a ton of bits and I think, with a little time and effort, they could become table top worthy again.

Thanks for the advice, everybody! And if anyone REALLY felt like I was rubbing it in, I'm sorry, that was no the intent. I'm just excited about really becoming a part of this hobby (and community).

Don't sell the Tau...trade them. You usually get alot more value trading.

Or if that fails convert them in battlewagons...at least for the hammerheads or what not.
