Very nice. I always thought they looked more like ww1 French than Germans and its really neat to see them with that paint scheme. Not sure if that was your intent but either way they look awesome.

Glory is fleeting, but obscurity lasts forever.

Considering also your duty as a warrior you should not waver. Because there is nothing more auspicious for a warrior than a righteous war.

Idk man the DKOK are known for their fearlessness and tenacity on the battlefield. I don't think that description fits the french very well at all

You do realize the French did have a big role in WW1

But its partially true. DK uniform is very french inspired while the helmet is german

anyways looks great. Pretty cool to see death korps with a blueish tint

I seem to remember a little battle called Belleau Wood where the retreating french told the Marines to fall back because the Germans were coming. A captain replied "Retreat?! Hell, we just got here!". The Marines then proceeded to earn the nickname of "devil dogs" after the Germans described their ferocity on the battlefield. So if anything the death korps represent U.S. Marines dressed as Germans in disguise, lmao.

Regardless of all this, that is a great paint job and display base.

They look really nice but I'm surprised at the moderately bright colors used on them rather than being dark and foreboding like most people paint them.

Still looks really nice and the banner is amazing.

@Darth bob: Thanks.

@alarmingrick: Cheers!

@Ssgt Carl: Cheers. That was my intent indeed. I was looking for a colour scheme with a little more contrast as many DKOK armies tend to suffer from incredibly boring looks and the crests on the helmets reminded me a lot of Adrian helmets. As a secondary thing, I also wanted to get away from German looks (that's why I didn't even look for German uniform references in the first place) because the whole "zomfgasmaskgermannazizombiepulp" thing is very old and overused. And I'm just not a fan at all.

@kenshin620: Yeah, it's generally a mix of late WW1 stuff.

@DODcrazy: Interesting story.
"Retreat?! Hell, we just got here!"
I'm pretty sure that this captain was pretty eager to fight given how late into it he finally decided to join in. I don't mean to be disrespectful of course. So should none of us and instead read up on facts and such. Andecdotes are a nice thing but other than fables, they rarely are meant to give a general piece of information or advice on something.

@BloodWulf: Thanks.

@grayspark: Thank you. When I have the choice, I always go for the brighter colours because that's what makes stuff look good in my opinion. Especially due to the fact that this army is made for playing. If I paint an 1/9 figurine I can go for tone-in-tone, dark and drab colours but this is a luxury you can't take on 28mm miniatures. Darker colours may be easier to paint but in my experience, it's brighter colours and most of all contrast that gets you pleasing results.

Tiny update: Put the company designation decals on their shoulder armour. Pretty fiddly stuff, that.

WOW. That just made my day. I love the colours you chose; they make me think of the Napoleonic wars, when pride in uniforms was more important than camouflage. At the same time, they are natural looking colours, not overly bright.

The duckboards, sandbags and barbedwire are perfect to add detail, without distracting from the models in any way.

It's not an anecdote. Look up the Battle of Belleau Wood and the whole story is in there. The Marines came in and offered fresh tactics; extreme marksmanship followed by brutal close combat. The quote by that captain occurred after the battle had been going on actually. However, since this bothers you so much why don't you look it up. There are numerous accounts by the French and Germans of the tenacity and skill of the Marines in that battle, and there's even an area there named after the Marines by the French.

On a thread related note, your banner and power sword are incredible.
