So I got to thinking. Assuming you have an IC in a squad at the beginning of a turn and you are planning on assaulting. Assume again that you dont think your enemy will be destroyed in the first round or that the rest of his army is suitably far away from your current position that you dont think you will take much fire when you get out of combat.
Now if you assault and kill the squad, you get 1 pain token, good for FNP once the assault is over.
Now what if you split the IC and the squad apart and then assaulted. While in Assault you have the same bonuses and penalties you would have had normally. If you lose the combat you are going to have to take 2 Ld tests but otherwise you should have no disadvantages. Now if you kill the squad EACH unit gets a pain token. Your IC and squad can then recombine and share the pain, giving you 2 pain tokens. Good for FNP and FC after the assault.

I admit you would have to have a special situation to use this tactic. It also comes with some risk. But in the right circumstances it can pay off with an extra pain token.

Take for example a DE player going up against a stupid SM player. He is stupid in that he infiltrated his Scouts Squad too close to the DE deployment zone and too far from the rest of his army. The DE player is going to take the first turn and has a unit of Wyches and a Succubus in a raider within 14"
The DE player could move 6" fleet 2" assault 6" and hope to get both his Wyches and Succubus into Assualt with the scouts. If he does he will be rewarded with an extra pain token which will come in handy later.

What are peoples thoughts?

EDIT OK I am STUPID, nevermind

only one problem, only one squad gets a pain token... reread your Power from PAin rule on pg 25 of the codex. You have to randomly assign the pain token to a unit.

now if it was TWO scout squads, this would work, as you could put your raider between them if they were a small distance apart, Succubus gets out at one end, wyches at the other, fleet, then assault and tear apart the squads, use their consolidation moves to get as close together as pssible, then the Sucubus rejoins on turn two during the movement phase.

You're going to get violated, and your best bet is to go willingly to get it over with faster.

And on a totally different topic:

What he said. The unit that gets the kill gets the pain token.

Also, I'm a very happy drunk. I had to backspace and retype my stuff here like 9 times.
