Hi guys!
First of all - great community here! Been lurking for a while now, really good forum.

I havn't played 40k since I was very young and it was 2nd ed rules but I've recently got the urge to start again.
Having lost all of my old models in a robbery I've had to do some shopping. I've got the models I need for
both of these lists but I can't decide which one to go with...
The theme is jump packs only as you can see.. So don't tell me to stick them all in razors or take a stormraven. xD
Other than that, any and all suggestions are welcome and appreciated! Thanks in advance!
Here goes..

HQ
Librarian
Shield of Sanguinius and Unleash Rage
Jump Pack

Elites
Sanguinary Priest
Jump Pack
Power Weapon

Sanguinary Priest
Jump Pack
Power Weapon

Troops
Assault Squad
10 Man Squad
Power Fist
2 Meltas

Assault Squad
10 Man Squad
Power Fist
2 Meltas

Fast Attack
Vanguard Veterans
5 Man Squad
Jump Packs
Thunder Hammer
3 Power Weapons

Total - 1,000 Points exactly

List 2

HQ
Librarian
Shield of Sanguinius and Unleash Rage
Jump Pack

Elites
Sanguinary Priest
Jump Pack

Troops
Assault Squad
10 Man Squad
Power Fist
2 Meltas

Assault Squad
10 Man Squad
Power Weapon
2 Meltas

Assault Squad
5 Man Squad
Power Fist
Melta
Infernus Pistol

Fast Attack
Vanguard Veterans
5 Man Squad
Jump Packs
Power Fist
Power Weapon

Total - 1,000 Points exactly

The idea of both lists is the same. Only things that are different is in the second list I've dropped a priest, some killing power from the VV unit and the remaining priest's power weapon in favour of another assault squad.

Please comment, let me know which one you'd go with or make some new suggestions!

Thanks again,

Lloyd

I would go with the first, Alot more application of power IMO. And as far as jump libby, theres a beautiful one in this thread, using DA parts for the robe and what-not http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/350334.page

4000 pts, 4000pts, 4000pts, 2000pts,
1500pts, (daemons)2000pts, 4500pts, 3170pts, 1500pts, 2500pts, 1850pts

I have to agree with the other guy. I've found that you have to make your vanguard veterans pretty darn buff so they can kill whatever you assault with heroic intervention without taking heavy casualties or else in the next turn, they're just going to get shot the poo out of. And at 1000 points, having them just wipe out another unit is going to be huge. Anyways, that's my thoughts. Seems like pretty solid lists either way though.

Cheers very much both :]
What do you think about the power fists in the assault squads?
I'm considering a switch to power weapons to take full advantage of the priest bubble.
The 20 points that frees up could be used for another man in the VV unit to soak up a wound perhaps.

I'd consider dumping the powerweapons on the Priests so you can take infernus pistols. You shouldn't get them into assault anyway. With tri-melta squads the need for fists is reduced meaning you can go with power weapons to have more VV or extra equipement on them.

But yeah list 1 is definitely better.

I'm more than aware of the drawbacks to this type of army but it's going to be alot of fun and more satisfying when you do win.
I might've taken a vindicator or a baal if they had jump packs. But alas, they do not...

Even if I did put a vehicle in this list. How long is it going to last? It'd be a lone bullet magnet.

I think he was suggesting jump packing across the board en masse rather than deep striking so the vehicles wouldn't be lone targets...

But that obviously is totally different to the DoA idea you want to run with. It would keep the massed JP theme and would make you more competitive, so might be worth considering. Personally I'd go for Hybrid Preds over both Baals and Vindis in this type of list.

Playtested the first list earlier today.
The first of two was vs a mass tac marine army that went something like the following :
Chaplain W/ 9 Assault marines + pw on sgt (reserve) - Devastators with 4x ML and a shed load of tactical units split into 5s with flamers and more MLs.
He kept all of these infantry units in cover and very tightly grouped together.
My VV arrived second turn, I tried to pick out his dev squad but failed to get into assault range (my fault). Got shot up pretty fast.
The other units did deep strike and get into combat quickly enough. But because of his small units, I'd wipe them out in 1 charge leaving me vulnerable to all of the shooting again.
Just 4 less bolters and 1 less ML/Flamer per assault. As my numbers dropped off fast, my charge wasn't wiping the units out anymore.
I became bogged down in combat giving the chaplain/assault squad time to get the drop on me and charge. :(

Needless to say I lost.

The next game was against IG. I'm not too familiar with their kit but he had a command squad, basilisk, leman russ, chimera w/veteran unit, vets with plasma guns x, 4 units of guardsmen a few h/w teams with autocannons. Some other stuff I'm sure, too many models.

VV unit turned up straight away again, this time I made sure I placed my strike correctly (Right next to the basilisk hidden in the corner).
They made very short work of that and consolidated nicely behind a bunker. They went on to blow up the leman russ and chop through a vet squad and some guardsmen.
The 2 assault squads suffered some losses deep striking into cover but went on to clear up the rest of the board.
Mainly thanks to the priests and libby breaking off alone and tying up any shooty infantry long enough for the assault squad to charge through.
It all worked well and was a comfortable win.

Overall the weaknesses were painfully obvious..Though it was alot of fun and it looks great when it works!
I'll play a few more games with this list next week and post the results.Until then, time to start on a 2k list - will definitely get some vehicles in that.

If you dump the power weapons on the priests, I think you should possibly switch out the librarian for a JP reclusiarch. You lose the shield, but you gain a tougher HQ unit, with more wounds, better initiative (Because really it would suck to have those force weapon wounds get all piled on the same guy with wound allocation because your RAS got enought 'plain' wounds on their own) and who comes with the equivalent of unleash rage but that can't have it stopped by a hood or by a botched psichic test.

The deep striking list is so fluffy its nice that way but ya if everything comes in first turn you may be in luck thats the nice thing about being able to re roll but ya the reclusiarch is defiantly a good idea but no one i have played against have ever tried to stop my powers weird lol. Definitely try running them across the board and then still have the vets do heroic intervention people sorta forget about them after they see masses of marines flying at them.

Thanks pal

Yeah I would be more than happy putting a reclusiarch in there instead..
The libby did well in the play test but died pretty fast against the IG command squad...

I'd take the first list with 2 Priests.
The Vanguard Vets need just a power fist, nothing more.
