Those bases seem like the best of all worlds indeed. I hope we get all the GW sizes in due time.

Grabbed some cannon fodder the other day(for Necromunda & Traitor guard/cultists & I dig them.
Great kit and very versatile. Most necromunda/gw head work with minor trimming.

Dunno, looks like western officer to me (I checked and revolver/holster/kit doesn't look like Japanese ones, never mind his facial hair) which kinda doesn't fit Asian troops.

But sadly not enough basic rifles and backpacks for the lot!
For me this is a Sludge two player starter set, gasmask pith vs gasmask trenchers!

I like the steampunk flamethrower, revolver, and sword. Not a fan of the grenade launcher (why not a PIAT-style one?) or the very generic plasma gun (could easily have been a plasma-bren or something). Bayonets look alarmingly thin and pointy for plastic, which would be OK if they were optional (for those willing to take the risk of breakage) but annoying as they are fixed to almost every rifle and don't look easy to trim off. Something about the vertical straps on the torso looks off; too curvy, I think. The shoulder and knee pads looked pretty bad in the last preview; things aren't really clear enough in this one for me to judge if they really put me off. Sprue is impressively dense, but still not up to GW standard; feels like they could have packed a few pouches, canteens, grenades, and knives in the gaps. Overall pretty impressed though; I think it's fair to say this is among the best plastic kits I've seen.

...can anyone tell me how sheathed saber with dangle pointing up makes any sense? Is it supposed to be slung across the back, point up? Is the dangle so dirty it's stiff? Is the dude with it doing superhero landing? What?
Also, why so many Mauser pistols? Yes, Soviets bought them but Russian Empire didn't, and in any case, there should be more Nagants than C96s (and I'd personally gave Soviets TK/ TT pistol, not something that is commonly associated with completely different military alliance)...

My guess it's just to show off how it would look separate, like with the magic floating Mauser, or the all the floating separate guns and sabres on the Japanese render.

From previous previews, it seems these component renders are often not quite final (there are several differences between the equivalent image of the Bulldogs and items on the final sprue, for example), so maybe the cords on the swords haven't actually been posed yet, and the C96 was the only pistol they have finished sculpting, with the various arms holding them being potential options which would be narrowed down to maybe one on the actual sprue.

Aye, for example; notice the conspicious lack of randomly floating weapons, or the separate grenades, the weapon effects, the rocket launcher, and sadly the big chunky flamethrower backpack. The initial render is usually all the possible things they could include on the sprue, a good amount of which aren't going to end up on the final sprue.
(Also, they did actually also sculpt the Nagant, there's three on the sprue, in poses that exactly mirror the Mauser. So it's probably a concept thing)
