I am starting imperial guard and want to paint my models using an Urban Camoflage Scheme as i think it looks really good, but i'm not sure how to do it effectively.

Any advice?

Unfortunately I don't have a picture, but (for reasons that will remain mine) I painted an Ork boy in Urban camo.

I did a white base on the clothes, then irregular patches of dark grey. Then do smaller irregular patches/stripes of a light grey and finish with a small amount of very small and thin spots and stripes of black.

Don't make it too uniform, and don't go too crazy with the black.

I actually HAVE an Urban IG army. Unfortunately, I don't have means to show you individual models. The technique is simple though.

Flak armour, helmet, lasgun are all Chaos black.
All cloth starts with a basecoat of Codex grey.
Then add irregular squiggles of 2:1 Chaos black and Fortress grey. (Google DPM camoflauge for the specific pattern)
Add another layer of pure Codex grey camo.
Belt, boots and puches in Scorched Brown.
Metals Boltgun metal, with a Chaos black wash to take down the glare.
Faces are Dwarf Flesh, Flesh wash, then 1:1 mix of Dwarf flesh and Elf Flesh for highlights.

Sounds long winded, but once you get into the rhythm of it, its quite efficient.

Urban Camo can be pretty tricky. I've done it on most of my troops, but have since switched over to more basic cadian colors for ease of painting and a change of color scheme.
Regardless what I do is prime the model black
then paint over the fatigues in Tamiya Field Grey
Then add squiggles of GW Skull white and after that squiggles of Tamiya Nato Black.

The real hard part is breaking up the camouflage. If you aren't set in your technique it can come out very very different. It took me almost 1 squads of guys to get down the correct camo laying technique and before I liked what I saw. Here let me show you:

As you can see the colors are the same, but the patterns are very different. The storm trooper seargent is the most recent and best representation of my urban camo. Basically I went online and looked up camo schemes and attempted to replicate that on models. It relies heavily on interrupting the sguiggles of the last layer you put on with the newest layer. In this case the Nato Black interupts the Skull White and combined, those squiggles outline the lower Field Grey coat into squiggles of its own. It takes a lot of time and patience. Best of luck to ya!

Here's an urban IG army I painted for a commission using the following method:
- Codex Grey fatigues
- Adeptus Battlegrey armor
- Camo hatches in black, Shadow Grey
- Badab Black wash like a mofo
- White spots put in after wash

Don't ressurect it though.

Here's my urban IG scheme (not camo):

This could easily be used as urban camo, but it's more the way that I painted it that matters most:

Mine look very similar to WhiteWolfs

Based Grey, then I just worked up from there, I found a brown wash on the white helps tone down how bright it comes out. I tried at one point to make my own color for their armor, hence why the flamer is more purple then the others, but I found this idea to work against me in the long run, unless you can do the armor pieces of your entire army in a short time frame. I didn't do this, and the paint I had made dried up, leaving me trying to recreate the same color again, as you can see, didn't work out so well for me As for the giant tan spot on the HH, that is in preparation for some custom pinup style decals (tasteful ones though)

Ughh looking at the flamer, he is horrible, think I'll redo him this weekend...

And their all getting rebased on a urban style using plasticard and sprue bits for rubble, its just taking me forever.

Fenris grey is an excellent base for urban camoflage. Combined with white and black dashes it looks awesome. Dont forget about real life urban camo that is black, tan, grey on a terracotta background.

Lots of good schemes here

I did my Tau in an urban/mountain style camo scheme. Primarily because it meant I could use black as a base colour

You just need to remember that the camo pattern is designed to break up edges and un-natural shapes to make it hard to see the outlines of the wearer. You don;t need that much patter to break it up, especially at 28mm scale... Basically if you see an edge, hide it

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

In my opinion I wouldn't paint Urban Camo on 28mm models. Other camo like woodland like Sheep's Dkok is fine, but the grey and the black will appear as splotches or just dots on the model. This camo prevents you from even seeing the model.

For urban camo, I would paint the shoulder pads are armor black and the fatigues grey. Still very urban while the model is still appealing.
