Well I'm now up to just under 13,000pts of Ultramarines. I've completed the entire 1st company formation as well. So I treated myself to a Stormraven.

The Stormraven is the perfect apocalypse centre piece for my Ultramarines. I also think it looks better in blue with it's Thunderhawk roots made more obvious. I think this is because we're used to seeing a lot of Ultramarine Thunderhawks in illustrations, not to mention the Thunderhawk GW/WD use in their Apoc battles is the Ultramarine one from Forgeworld.

I painted huge icons on mine to break up the large areas of colour. I think another reason why many don't like the stormraven is because the large empty areas of flat colour shown on the GW Blood Angel one. You only have to look at the grey knight one and it looks awesome in silver and large areas of heraldic stripes on the nose.

Imagine a Blood angels one with twin yellow stripes cutting it in half like a Ford GT40, I think that would make the model look so much better.

Anyway, enough of my babbling about how to make a raven look semi decent. Here are the pics.

That looks really good. Just seeing it all painting up like that makes me hope all the newer marine codexes get a stormraven. Heck the thing looks better in blue if you ask me.

That is fething brilliant. Lovely freehand. Are you using brushes or sponges to get the randomly-shaped weathering?

Giant symbols work really well. Seeing how well it works, I'll do similar on mine.

For mine I'm doing it like the old classic 90s Epic Blood Angels Thunderhawks. The black also helps break it up.

Ahh, this is just a Photoshop mockup.

I'll be painting the canopy interior in Necrotech green and Thraka Wash, and then replacing the canopy piece with green acetate. Maybe even cannnibalise some old Blacktron lego kits.

Not keen on the actual model at all, having said that the paint job is excellent.

Any chance of a pic of the entire company?

You make Ultarmarines look good. I would love to see 13k of these guys. The Techmarine really pops against the blue. I hate when people complain about large, undetailed areas. It's a chance to actually paint as far as I'm concerned. Great job.

Look at model car paints. You can buy transparent spray paints in all sorts of colors, its meant to simulate window tint.

Whats my game?
Warmachine (Cygnar)

I still prefer it in Red and even better as a Yellow Lamenters Raven, but your paint work is incredible! The insignias and Ultramarine logos are great and this is some of the best weathering I have seen! I love the detail and caution panels around the engines, excellent work!

4250 points of Blood Angels goodness, sweet and silky W12-L6-D4
1000 points of Teil-Shan (my own scheme) Eldar Craftworld in progress

675 points of Commoraghs finest!
