I'm thinking about getting the Games Workshop battlescape:

I'm on a small budget and have even less space, so my scenery at the moment is more along the lines of several key pieces instead of a bunch of small pieces.
Does anyone have experience with this piece? I really like the look of it, especially the destroyed rhino, and for what it is, it seems worth the price ($25 USD).

Do you guys think its worth it?

And before anyone says "just make your own", I have. I already have several home made pieces. I don't like them, they look like crap, I don't really have the time to cut up boxes and such.

Well, I WAS going to say make your own, but you said not to. I have lots of cardboard crap for "terrain" and I hate it too. BUT, I've been watching/reading more and more instructions on how to make good terrain for MUCH cheaper than GW. Foamboard, Plasticard, Masonite board, and GOOD styrofoam all make good terrain and can be found for cheap.

This particular terrain piece is nice. Looks to be similar in size to the Forest Piece, and that takes up a large chunk of the board. So, yeah, seems like a decent deal for a nice dangerous terrain piece. But, also, because of the Rhino, it doesn't translate to, say, Warhammer Fantasy if you want that. But, that's a different concern.

So, all in all, not bad, but if you ARE on a tight budget, homemade can be good, both in money AND in looks.

The correct question is, would I be enjoying this hobby if I did this?

The correct audience is you.

I own ALOT of different Citadel scenery, including the Rhino piece and several "Citadel Wood" pieces, and to be honest I think if I where to choose only one piece I would take 1 Citadel Wood (if the choice was between those two - my first choice would always be some Cities of Death ruins).

The wood costs about the same and it's just more practical. The Rhino piece, while looking more interestingly, is kinda clumsy to use, especially with vehicles. The Wood has the feature where you can take off the trees, and this is really, really practical. And if you assemble and paint the wood without any leaves on, it looks very fitting for a 40k setting.

But of course, I would recommend getting at least one of each, and then a single box of the imperial sector for your next birthday - you will easily fill a table with those three components.

It's a good piece. I have it. In addition to the destroyed Aquila lander and lots of ruins, my table looks pretty good. Except the fact that nothing is painted yet!

I'd say it's worth the money. It's quite large, and you can make some neat scenarios with it.

It's worth it, buit whats funny is how they hide the worst part of the model with the angle of the picture .... those stupid knotholes in the trees look completely ridiculous .... a minute with a dremmel drill attachment and greenstuff fixed it though.

That piece is a good one, one I still need to get around to getting...

The imperial sector is excellent as well, as is the ruins of osgiliath in the LOTR section.

Beyond that, there are some great things made by a company called Pegasus.

Personally, and I have yet to buy any scenery because I am just starting out. But, I think that the piece looks good, and if you have other scenery to compliment it, it would look great. However, I think that I would start by getting something else, since pretty much every other piece of scenery can be used anywhere.

Meaning that you can slap a hill next to any of the other buildings and it not feel awkward. Also, I have unless this piece is at the other end of the board, it really doesn't look to well with buildings.

My buddy Jim has it and I think it looks awesome! The Rhino being built into it is a bonus, then you don't have to destroy one to make some cool scenery.

Pound-for-pound, Games Workshop scenery is such an awesome deal! They all look great and the assembly, while a little tricky, is very modular, allowing for a lot of creativity.

It's a nice piece but if you're just starting on your terrain collection then you should focus on line-of-sight blocking pieces first.

I agree with Scott - I have this piece and it looks very nice, however, proper LOS blocking terrain is more useful if you are on a limited budget, or have limited terrain available.

All three of my hand made pieces are LOS limiting. I have a hill which is taller than a marine, a three story ruined building, and a picket fence made of sprue. I'm looking for some area terrain, as the pieces I have all have fairly small footprints.

Then this is a nice looking kit. You might want to consider the crater pack as that gives you a lot more area terrain for less money. They are not as visually impressive, but will give you a lot of difficult terrain for vehicles, and area cover for models.

You can also pimp them with bits of other stuff... ruined buildings, destroyed vehicles, etc.

Woodland Scenic trees can also be used easily and cheaply to give you all sorts of looks as well as creating LOS and area terrain.

I personally use the pine tree armatures and their "deadfall" pack to create a "shelled wood" look (still WIP ).
