When do you think you'll be done collecting models for your army?

Personally, I'll be done after another Vendetta, about 30 Rough riders, an another Lord Commissar. I hope.

I'm contemplating selling much of my collection and starting afresh.

I will probably finish painting and modelling my stuff first (especially my Guard, as they are really easy to paint).

So... I think I have collected enough for now in terms of my IG and CSM.

I don't think I will ever be done. I have probably 5000 points to put together and I just know I will want to buy more. I think I am becoming a hoarder...

Nobody is ever done and stil in the hobby.

Well, in the process of trading for another 3 wave serpents, then its 2 eldar cobras and a revenant titan from forgeworld.

Another Dreadnought (ONLY when we get a plastic kit)

That may seem like a lot, but I have more troops than I can physically take, two land raiders, 10 terminators, two dreadnoughts, five raptors, two vindicators, typhus, kharne, abaddon, and a couple sorcerers. The only things that are urgent are the rhinos. I sold a couple to pay for DE, and some other stuff.

Well, the problem I have is that after starting IG back in the day, I eventually though about trying out Eldar, then I thought about trying nids, and so on and so forth.

My biggest issue is simply sticking to one thing long enough to have a complete force. My IG force still has several vehicles unpainted, and even some unassembled. It's annoying because the reason I can't finish some is because of parts. I've got three vendettas, but I've got like 4 lascannons lying around. Considering I need like 18 to outfit the vendettas, I'm not really sure where to get them from.

While I'm still interested in modelling & painting I'm sure I'll never stop collecting.

Currently hoarding Imperial Fists, Nurgle & Khorne marines and just starting Vostroyans. Also interested in painting some Tyranids and all my old 2ed Eldar plus plenty of stuff from other armies.

Not sure that I'll ever run out of models, just motivation.

pah i will never stop colecting probs. When i do i will give to my kids or nephews/nieces (if i get any).
Or give it to some friends for free. because by the time i stop i hope to be an older man. Even though we could be in the 15th edition i would still keep them... thats a lie i will probably sell most of it. But as long as i play i will still be buying and painting models.

I figure once I can max out the FoC with every possible unit and max unit size. Then I want to have all of the options for each of those slots. So like for SWs in troops slots I will have 60 base grey hunters, 12 meltagunners, 12 plasmagunners, 12 flamers, 6 power weapon dudes, 6 power fist dudes.

Granted, thats just a dream and is very far off. Also, half of the crap I listed would never get used due to game sizes or just general uselessness of some weapons. IE: Grey hunters with power fists, 2 attacks on charge, 1 attack in later combat phases. Your average SM sergeant gets 3 attacks on charge, 2 attacks normally.

Currently I am trying to strip all my models as I am not happy with the paint job. However I am haveing a great deal of trouble getting the primer off, and if I am unable to get it off I may have to buy more models

I am done with my Orks. I have enough to fill their case, and that's all I wanted for them. My Space Wolves and Crimson Fists are done until I've painted everything I've got for them. Right now the only army I've got any plans for expanding are my IG, and even then I'm doing very little at the moment. Overall I'm just working through my enormous backlog and occasionally adding new units when I feel like it.

I think it's a fair assumption that if you are into this hobby then you will NEVER be finished collecting your army! even if you do finish an army there will be something around the corner waiting to inspire you to bust out the brushes and get creative or frantically glue together a battle force so you can try the latest rule set! I think it's half the fun, putting it down for a year or two then re discovering the mini's and the game and realising that it has some kind of hold over you and you never really did stop...you just had a break

I suppose you're right. Once I finish with my IG, I am going to pick up two Necron battle forces. Then a monolith, maybe a tomb spider...

For my IG, I need to get 2 twin-linked lascannons for my Vendetta, and paint my army. After that...I don't know, but I'll be done collecting them.

I thought I was done with my orks but the next tourny I want to attend is 2000pts and I cant make that without spamming useless crap so GW gets a weeks wages again at some point =(

Why would you need to take the primer off anyways? I had about 90 boyz that I stripped the paint off of and the primer refused to come off. I resprayed them lightly with another primer and seriously it didn't make any difference once I repainted them. Besides they need to be primed anyways, right?

Well I just started out so I doubt I'll be done anytime soon. But I want to have enough models to be able to have a different couple of lists using the same army, for example a DoA army, a DC army, Dread army etc.

After that I dunno where I'll end up, but Tyranids do look sweet but not sure if I want another melee/assault based army

My Tyranids are done until they come out with some more Offical Models, but I"m at close to 4000 points right now so I'm not that concerned.

My Necrons are done until the new Codex.

My Eldar are done as well, untl some new models come out.

It's getting close to time to start a new army, I'm thinking DE, or GK. I'll probably start a new one around October/November Time frame.

After assembling and painting this new IG army, I guess I'll be done until 6th edition.

Then the game will change significantly and there will be new "hot stuff!" units to collect.

I will be done when one of two things happen.
#1: Gamesworkshop stops makeing minis.
#2: I die.

I've been collecting since 1983. I've got bad news for you, guys; IT NEVER ENDS!

As long as they keep coming out with models I have a feeling I'm going to keep buying them...unfortunately, I tend to buy them at a faster rate than I can complete them; I think I have a problem.

I'm kind of on the General's side on this one. As long as new kits are being released, or I run across a great deal on a model I don't have, there is always the potential for the army to grow.

However, there is a point at which I stop actively expanding an army. It's usually some combination of the following factors.
1-Proabably somewhere around 2500 points,
2-when my force includes all the models I have,
3-when it just looks right.

After I get one more GK model, my GK army will be done.
I don't care what changes 6th ed brings - I will have stopped playing 40k by then. The armies will go into their cabinet and come out for Tomorrows' War games instead.

My IG has 60 infantry to finish painting. It will then be done.
My eldar is done (all 13000pts worth).
My SM are also done.

I can continue to play games with what I have without buying new models every edition. I bough very little between 2nd ed and 4th ed.

I think the day when I can't afford it, or when I've bought every single one. Since I play a lot of pen and paper RPGs I can never have too many minis.
