I managed to flick through the new GREY KNIGHTS codex as the local GW and they appeard to be naaaasssttttyyy. I was thinking of using a tactic where I equip all of my plague marine squads with plasma weapons, I have a dread with a plasma cannon and planning to get two chosen squads with 5 plasma guns in eahc and a couple of bolters to soak up the damage, making the plasma gunners last longer. I plan on sitting in cover (like ontop of a building) and wait for the grey knights to get near, and then fire at them with the plasmas. The obliterators, defiler, and dreadnought will sit at the back taking massive chunks out of the enemy's long-range weapons team. Lastly the lascannon pred will have it's guns locked onto enemy armour ...what do you think?

I think that any GK army taking a plasma siphon will die from laughing...

If only I could remember what a plasma siphon supposedly does >.<

Other Dreadnaughts should just go somewhere and be a toaster.

Mattieu~~~~ It's not that eldar are bad, it's that they require a lot of intergration between units. Also, that doesnt prove anything other than GW has a huge hard-on for marines, and, given the option between making a xeno the best psykers or making a marine the best psyker, they will 9 times out of 10 choose the marine.

It makes the firer of Plasma BS1 if within 12" of the bearer of the siphon. I believe the only model that can take the siphon is a Xenos Inquisitor. It basically makes rapid firing Plasma at the squad almost impossible, but long range Plasma (like Plasma cannons) shouldn't worry, except against heavy armor.

Other than the Plasma Siphon thing mentioned above, I think plasma will be even more effective. For the most part, it kills just as well as it does against other MEQs, except now each model it kills is a larger part of the overall army.

What if the grey knights run double land raiders? plasma is not so good then.

Avoid knee jerk reactions. Grey Knights are like every other marine army.

The latest lists i've been running are essentially lots of scatter laser, with a handfull of EML's and fire dragons for AT. I think i may have to put a few starcannons in my list given all the interest in GK in my local meta.

The problem with you packing packing plasma and trying to take chunks out of heavy weapon teams is that pretty much EVERY unit is packing the same heavy weapons. So a Purifier squad gets three Psycannons and a strike squad only gets two.

You also can't forget about plasma getting hot...you're bound to roll a 1 eventually

Seriously, this is all that needs to be said. You are welcome to take all that melta off though and exchange it for plasma, my other armies would be thankful for it.

Thats a minor issue.
Each time a marine takes a shot with a PG, it has a 1/18 chance of killing him.

During those 18 shots, on average he would have killed 10 MEQ (not in cover).

The average return on investment (RoI) of plasma is more than way higher than the cost of the PG. They are solid investments.

against a chaos player ive had a squad of chosen outflank a few inches onto the table, get out of their rhino, every single marine with a plasma blew up and died, the unit failed leadership, broke and was destroyed because they were completely cut off by their own rhino and one of my squads.

it was probably the funniest turn ive ever seen.
just thought i would share.

I don't see that any weapon changes would be needed in my army, even if I played grey knights every other game. As has already been pointed out, killing GK will be just like killing any other marines, it's their offensive options and psychic abilities that are different. Tactics and knowing your opponent's options, not list tailoring, would be a good idea.

Seems like plasma will cut through Grey Knights. Makes me want some Devastator Squads full of PC to prepare.
